49ers met with Hawaii O-lineman Ilm Manning
According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the San Francisco 49ers are among the teams that have spoken with Hawaii offensive lineman Ilm Manning. Manning was not among the attendees at the NFL Scouting Combine, so the discussion took place over the phone, Melo tells 49ers Webzone.
Melo adds that he has spoken with scouts who believe Manning can be an NFL starter at center or guard. The offensive lineman had over 40 starts at tackle, signifying great versatility, a quality highly sought by the 49ers.
"I recently spoke with the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, and Green Bay Packers," Manning told Melo during a recent interview.
The 49ers have three offensive linemen scheduled to become unrestricted free agents. They are Mike McGlinchey, Daniel Brunskill, and
Jake Brendel. In addition, offensive lineman
Colton McKivitz is slated to become a restricted free agent.
Manning (6-4, 299) will participate in Hawaii's pro day on Wednesday.
"I'm putting in work every single day," Manning told Melo. "… It's been a great process. I've been working with Pete Bommarito and his staff down in Florida. They've done a great job getting my speed up. I've been getting stronger as well."

49ers trade up for offensive lineman in mock draft
The San Francisco 49ers hold the No. 31 overall pick, but speculation abounds that they may seek to move before or during the first round of next week's NFL Draft. With the offensive line as a prime target for improvement and the position going mostly ignored in free agency, a strategic trade-up to acquire an impact player could be in the cards.
Alyssa Barbieri proposes such a scenario in her latest mock draft for USA Today's Touchdown Wire. Barbieri envisions the 49ers trading with the Miami Dolphins to move up 10 spots, selecting former Alabama offensive lineman JC Latham.
