49ers reportedly beat out Rams for RB Christian McCaffrey

Last offseason, Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams beat out Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers for quarterback
Matthew Stafford. The Rams went on to win the Super Bowl.
This year, it was Shanahan's team beating out McVay and the Rams, who reportedly made a push to acquire Carolina Panthers running back
Christian McCaffrey before the 49ers completed the blockbuster deal. San Francisco is hoping the move works out just as well for them as Stafford worked out for the Rams.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that there was some urgency to get a deal done when it became apparent that the Panthers would trade McCaffrey before the November 1 deadline.
San Francisco reportedly sent second-, third-, and fourth-round picks in 2023, plus a fifth-rounder in 2024 for the running back.
The 49ers will have an opportunity to unleash McCaffrey against the Rams on October 30, when the team travels to SoFi Stadium for a Week 8 NFC West battle.
The versatile McCaffrey joins a 49ers offense now loaded with playmakers, including wide receivers
Deebo Samuel and
Brandon Aiyuk and tight end
George Kittle.

Should the 49ers be worried about Christian McCaffrey's workload?
It's not an exaggeration to say that RB Christian McCaffrey is coming off one of the best individual seasons in the history of the San Francisco 49ers.
In his first full year in red and gold, McCaffrey led the NFL in rushing yards (1,459), total yards (2,023) and total touchdowns (21) on his way to becoming Offensive Player of the Year. His yards on the ground were the fourth most ever for a Niners running back and his 21 touchdowns trailed only WR Jerry Rice's team record of 23, which the Hall of Famer accomplished in just 12 games in 1987. McCaffrey was also prolific in the passing game, hauling in 67 receptions and often providing a safety net for QB Brock Purdy.

Steelers are reportedly still pursuing 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk
According to NFL Insider, Benjamin Allbright, the Pittsburgh Steelers are trying to trade for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, to add him as a weapon for QB Russell Wilson. The Steelers added Wilson earlier this offseason after the Denver Broncos decided to move on from him. Aiyuk, if paired with Steelers WR George Pickens, would give Wilson two dangerous threats in the passing game.

Kellen Mond will try out during 49ers' local pro day
The San Francisco 49ers are set to host their local pro day this Wednesday afternoon, offering numerous draft prospects a prime opportunity to display their skills before the team's coaches, scouts, and front-office personnel.
However, it won't be just draft hopefuls on the field in Santa Clara. According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, several others, including a former third-round draft pick, quarterback Kellen Mond, will try out for the team.
Maiocco's report also names tight ends Curtis Hodges, Hunter Kampmoyer, and Tommy Sweeney among those expected to attend.
