49ers-Texans: Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, Trent Williams among 16 who won’t suit up

Aug 25, 2022 at 4:00 PM--

With many of the starters expected to play in the preseason finale against the Houston Texans, the San Francisco 49ers announced that the following 16 players will not suit up for the contest at NRG Stadium.

On Wednesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said that the plan is to have his starters play for a couple of drives. The team will then have 17 days until the regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Sunday, September 11.

"I'd like them to get a couple of drives," Shanahan said on KNBR, a day after telling reporters that his starters weren't expected to play beyond the first half. "I just want them to go out and have a little bit of the continuity of the offense. They haven't played since the first game of the preseason. After this, we have 17 days, I believe. Something like that until they play again (in Week 1 against the Bears).

"That's such a long time that I want them to go out there and just get in there a little bit. But I'm trying to get them out pretty fast. My goal is for them to stay healthy, and as long as they do that, I'll be happy."

New Orleans Saints fans were fuming after the game. Many felt that San Francisco 49ers pass rusher Nick Bosa was early off the line of scrimmage on the fourth-down play that led to sack number 11.5 for the defender this season. Even Bosa wasn't sure the play would stand. "It was great. I didn't think it counted, but once I realized it did, I was pretty happy," Bosa told reporters after the 49ers' 13-0 win at Levi's Stadium. A reporter asked Bosa why he felt it might not have counted. "I thought I jumped, but I looked at it," Bosa shared. "I think it was just a good jump." That, of course, led to some laughs from the 49ers media. The talented defensive end went on to discuss the play further. "I think the tackle got off at
