Bettors seem to believe in 49ers QB Trey Lance

The narrative surrounding Trey Lance and his readiness to take over as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers has been primarily negative thus far in the offseason, especially from the national media. Doubts abound about the second-year quarterback, but that hasn't seemed to deter bettors at Caesar's Sportsbook in Las Vegas.

According to Max Meyer, an editorial content writer for Caesar's Sportsbook, more money has come in on Trey Lance to win NFL MVP than Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes combined.

All of this money has driven his odds from +20000 all the way down to +6000.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, as of May 11, Lance actually had the 19th best odds to win the award, tied with teammate Deebo Samuel at +5000.

While the national media may not be very high on Lance and his prospects as the starting quarterback for the 2022 49ers, the betting public seems to have quite a bit of faith in Lance and what he will be able to produce and accomplish in Kyle Shanahan's offense.

OTA's begin tomorrow, May 24, which will give fans their first glimpse of Lance as he takes all of the first-team reps while Jimmy Garoppolo remains sidelined from his shoulder injury and subsequent surgery.

It will be very interesting to monitor not only the narrative surrounding Trey Lance as OTAs, mandatory minicamp, and training camp play out over the summer, but what the betting markets look like as well.

If you're thinking about putting money down on Lance to win NFL MVP for the 2022 season, you may want to do it now in case those odds keep getting lower.

H/t to Patrick Tulini for the find.

Joe Montana doesn't believe Trey Lance is ready to take over, explains Jimmy Garoppolo comments

By David Bonilla

NFL legend Joe Montana made headlines this week when he told columnist Mike Silver on a podcast that if the decision were his, Jimmy Garoppolo would remain the starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers. Montana pointed to the number of games Garoppolo has won for the organization, something that third-year quarterback Trey Lance hasn't had an opportunity to do yet. Of course, if Brock Purdy hadn't gotten hurt in the NFC Championship Game, this might not be a discussion worth having. The 23-year-old quarterback would likely be the frontrunner to start in 2023. However, he is facing a six-month recovery after undergoing surgery later this month to repair the tear of the

Get ready for a barrage of speculation surrounding the San Francisco 49ers quarterback situation and its impact on the upcoming 2023 season. Before Sunday, most expected the QB1 job to be Brock Purdy's to lose. However, Monday's news that the rookie quarterback suffered a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow changed things. He will require surgery and may not be able to throw for the 49ers until training camp. Jimmy Garoppolo is slated to become a free agent. He suffered a broken foot on December 4 and is still recovering, but he will likely play elsewhere in 2023. So unless the 49ers pursue another veteran—Tom Brady's name may come up once or twice—third-year quarterback Trey Lance, the No. 3 overall pick in 2021, may now be the

Brock Purdy is expected to miss about six months due to the tear of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in the elbow of his throwing arm. The injury was suffered during the first quarter of Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Jimmy Garoppolo, recovering from the broken foot he suffered on December 4, is expected to hit free agency. That leaves the San Francisco 49ers with Trey Lance, the quarterback they drafted with the No. 3 overall pick in 2021. Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury on September 18, undergoing two surgeries since then, with the

"That was harder, mentally": How 49ers QB Trey Lance benefited from challenging season

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance sat down with Tommy Tran and Brady Quinn of CBS Sports HQ and discussed his challenging 2022 season. Lance went down with a season-ending ankle injury during Week 2, throwing the team's plans for the season upside down. The 49ers ended up having a successful season, but Lance spent most of it as an observer, unable to help his teammates on the football field. Lance was asked how his ankle is feeling now. "I'm doing great," the quarterback responded. "You know, road to recovery still. It has been a grind, it has been a long road, but I'm feeling good about where I'm at, and I think I'm in a really good spot." Lance underwent two procedures.
