49ers-Packers Injury Report: Elijah Mitchell, Arik Armstead remain out; Trey Sermon, Emmanuel Moseley limited

Sep 23, 2021 at 2:44 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 3 contest against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Safety Jimmie Ward, linebacker Fred Warner, and tackle Trent Williams returned to practice after receiving Wednesday off. None are dealing with injuries.

Running back Elijah Mitchell remains out. He sustained a shoulder injury during the 49ers' Week 2 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. After missing two days of practice, Mitchell's chances of playing this weekend appear to be slim.

Also absent were defensive end Arik Armstead, running back JaMycal Hasty, and defensive tackle Kevin Givens. The latter two are headed for injured reserve and expected to remain out for a while.

Running back Trey Sermon, who was limited on Wednesday after suffering a concussion against the Eagles, is still practicing in a blue no-contact jersey.

Below are Thursday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Packers, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.

Trey Lance started his first NFL game this past weekend, replacing an injured Jimmy Garoppolo. The rookie quarterback's performance had its ups and downs. Despite the defeat and the San Francisco 49ers falling to 2-3 on the season, the outing was an excellent opportunity for Lance to learn and gain valuable experience. General manager John Lynch joined KNBR today. He offered an evaluation of Lance's first start and didn't feel the moment was too big for the 21-year-old. "I think that was the case from the very first play," Lynch said on the Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "You know, welcome to the NFL. J.J. Watt and Chandler Jones blow by our offensive line on the first play, and Trey's got enough athleticism and instinct to pull up and make an

49ers' Nick Bosa believes he and Arik Armstead are dominant in this category

By David Bonilla

Most analysts already view Nick Bosa as one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. He racked up nine regular-season sacks as a rookie and added four more in the playoffs. This year, he leads the San Francisco 49ers with five sacks. While the accolades have come due to Bosa's ability to frustrate opposing quarterbacks, the talented defensive end believes he and a teammate might actually be vastly underrated when it comes to another category. Bosa has proven himself to be a great overall player, remaining in the game during run plays. He ranks fifth against the run among edge rushers with over 55 snaps, per Pro Football Focus' grading system. "I love the run game because it just gets me going in the game," Bosa said after today's practice. "And if the
