John Lynch reaches out to Richard Sherman and wife; 49ers ready to offer resources, support

Jul 15, 2021 at 12:01 PM--

Richard Sherman is going through a difficult situation right now. He was arrested on Wednesday morning after allegedly crashing his vehicle, then causing a disturbance at the residence of his in-laws, and eventually resisting law enforcement.

Sherman was charged with "burglary domestic violence," with the "domestic violence" designation being assigned due to the cornerback being related to individuals inside the residence where the incident took place. While Sherman and officers suffered some minor injuries before the cornerback was apprehended, no one else was injured.

More troubling was the 911 call by Sherman's wife, Ashley Moss. The recording was aired on Seattle-Tacoma radio station KIRO-FM, and Ashley can be heard saying that Sherman was intoxicated and threatening suicide.

"He's being aggressive. He has sent text messages," Moss said. "... He's trying to leave now, the house. He's being aggressive. He's wrestling with my uncle. He's threatening to kill himself. He's sent text messages to people saying he's going to hang himself."

Sherman spent the last three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He is currently a free agent and had hoped to catch on with a needy team, possibly during training camp. According to NBC Sports Bay Area, 49ers general manager John Lynch reached out to Sherman and Moss to let the couple know that they can use the team as a resource.

"More than anything, just praying for them," Lynch said via Matt Maiocco. "They're good people. Just praying that they find their way through this, and we'll support them any way we can."

Like everyone else, Lynch was shocked by the news about his former player, learning about the situation upon returning home from a vacation.

"Obviously, not the news you want to hear," Lynch shared. "Surprised, certainly. But most of all, just concern for the family, for everyone involved."

Moss made it clear that her husband did not harm any members of his family.

"He didn't harm anybody," she told the Seattle Times. "My kids were not harmed in the incident. He's a good person and this is not his character. We're doing all right, just trying to get him out (of jail). I want people to know no one was injured."

According to Josina Anderson, Sherman is scheduled for his first appearance felony hearing this afternoon at the King County Correctional Facility courtroom in Seattle.

Update: According to multiple reports, a King County judge has released Sherman without bail pending a second hearing on Friday at 8 a.m. on four charges — gross misdemeanors and misdemeanors. Sherman has been ordered to have no contact with his wife or father-in-law.

With other suitors interested, the free agent waited to find the perfect landing spot following a one-season stint in Buffalo. "Like you said, they have a good defense," Williams continued. "They have a team that can compete, potentially win right now. So, you make the final call, man. What do you think?" Norman agreed, and the deal moved forward. "Alright, man. You're a Forty-Niner," his agent responded. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports was the first to

Could Richard Sherman returning to the San Francisco 49ers be on the horizon for the veteran cornerback? Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that the two sides had been in contact about the possibility but didn't indicate anything was imminent. Still, it is an intriguing possibility. The 49ers lost their starting cornerback, Jason Verrett, to what appears to be a season-ending ACL injury. That confirmation is expected today. A week ago, the team signed Josh Norman for depth. But a significant injury to one of your best defenders can force you to look at your options. That's what the 49ers are preparing to do. Prayers

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch joined KNBR's Murph & Mac show this morning. He provided an update on his rookie quarterback, Trey Lance, who has been recovering from a chipped bone in his finger suffered on August 29 in the preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders. The 49ers are preparing for their Week 1 matchup against the Detroit Lions, and Lance has been limited in the team's last two practices. Lynch was asked if his rookie will be available on Sunday. "It looks like it," Lynch responded. "He's had two good days of practice, provided he goes out there today and doesn't have any setbacks, which, at this point, is just about not hitting his hand on anyone's helmet, the way he [initially injured the finger].
