“I got the message, and I will do better”: 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan responds to face mask fine

Sep 23, 2020 at 10:31 AM--

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was among those hit with a $100,000 fine for not properly wearing their face masks on Sunday. The NFL also fined the team an additional $250,000, as the league works to ensure that coaches and other sideline staff are showing that they are adequately protecting themselves from COVID-19.

On Wednesday, a reporter asked Shanahan about the hefty fine.

"I'm obviously disappointed," Shanahan responded. "I mean, no one ever wants to have to spend that kind of money. But the biggest disappointment was I think our organization has taken this stuff very seriously. I think our organization has been unbelievable with the protocols that we've done, and the ones that have been given to us, and what we've followed.

"Obviously, I can do a better job during the game of wearing it. I got the message, and I will do a better job. But I don't want to take away from the fact that of how good our organization has done with this stuff in the buildings, with all the players, how we've traveled, the money we've put into it to make it safe.

"But yeah, I got the message, and I will do better."

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick praised San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle this week while on a conference call with reporters. "Kittle is a great player," Belichick said. "He does everything well. I'd put him right at the top of the league there, period. ... He's as good as anybody that I've coached or as good as anybody that we've played against." Added Belichick: "He's a great player. I don't think there's a tight end in the league, and we've seen a lot of good ones and had a lot of good ones, but I don't think there's anybody in the league that does everything overall as well as he does. He just really doesn't have any

Kyle Shanahan: Is the young, "cool," and "fearless" coach's old-school mentality holding the 49ers back?

By Chris Wilson

The San Francisco 49ers describe their head coach as a "detailed wizard," and an "aggressive guru," but Kyle Shanahan's actions -- and words -- tell a different story of a man struggling to find a path to greatness. Prior to the San Francisco 49ers' NBC Sunday Night Football matchup with the Los Angeles Rams, sideline reporter Michelle Tafoya asked each player from both teams for three words which best describe their respective head coach. The point of the exercise was to highlight the similarities between the two young coaches, which was a common theme throughout the broadcast. Four of the words provided were identical, and the remainder were relatively similar. However, Shanahan's descriptors formed the image of a "smart" and "relentless"

49ers' Emmanuel Moseley visited specialist; Kyle Shanahan hopes to get him back this week

By David Bonilla
Oct 11, 2020

The San Francisco 49ers have a compromised defensive backfield. That was evident during the team's 43-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Richard Sherman and Emmanuel Moseley opened the season as the starting cornerbacks. Sherman hasn't played since Week 1, but head coach Kyle Shanahan hopes he can begin practicing this week. Moseley has missed the last two games as he continues to recover from a concussion he suffered during Week 3. Moseley recently saw a specialist, and Shanahan sounded optimistic about the cornerback's return. "He did see a specialist. I think we got had some pretty good news on that," Shanahan said after the game. "We're still waiting. I don't have anything confirmed yet, but I'm really hoping we can get him back this
