“I got the message, and I will do better”: 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan responds to face mask fine

Sep 23, 2020 at 10:31 AM--

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was among those hit with a $100,000 fine for not properly wearing their face masks on Sunday. The NFL also fined the team an additional $250,000, as the league works to ensure that coaches and other sideline staff are showing that they are adequately protecting themselves from COVID-19.

On Wednesday, a reporter asked Shanahan about the hefty fine.

"I'm obviously disappointed," Shanahan responded. "I mean, no one ever wants to have to spend that kind of money. But the biggest disappointment was I think our organization has taken this stuff very seriously. I think our organization has been unbelievable with the protocols that we've done, and the ones that have been given to us, and what we've followed.

"Obviously, I can do a better job during the game of wearing it. I got the message, and I will do a better job. But I don't want to take away from the fact that of how good our organization has done with this stuff in the buildings, with all the players, how we've traveled, the money we've put into it to make it safe.

"But yeah, I got the message, and I will do better."

Kyle Shanahan, 49ers Must Find a New Identity

By Gilbert Brink

The 49ers can still win Super Bowl 55. Many teams can. There has been a handful of teams throughout history that have started off slow and still won the Super Bowl. Sitting at 2-2, the Super Bowl seems like a pipe dream for the 49ers. This is a good thing; perhaps the 49ers were a little too focused on their "revenge tour" and less focused on winning the battle immediately in front of them. After suffering some major injuries early in the season, the 49ers look nothing like the team that took the stage for Super Bowl 54 in early February 2020. That team was driven by a dynamic running game and a fierce defense that got after the quarterback with its front 4. This team is struggling to run the ball, and is playing without defensive linemen Dee Ford, DeForest Buckner, Solomon

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is working his way back from an ankle injury. According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, he will practice with his teammates this afternoon but be limited. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that Garoppolo will play on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. "The fact that he's coming out today and getting a little more reps, it has (made me more optimistic)," Shanahan said. "I haven't seen him yet. I mean, he did a good job in walk-through, and we'll see how he goes. We're going to throw him in there today, and that will give me more of an opinion, at least." Garoppolo has missed the last two games after sustaining his injury during Week 2 against the New York Jets. Shanahan informed
