Jimmy Garoppolo named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after 49ers’ win over Saints

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill of the Tennessee Titans won the award on the AFC side. He is among Garoppolo's competition for FedEx Air Player of the Week.

Garoppolo is the first 49ers quarterback to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors since 2012 when both Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick did so. Wide receiver Anquan Boldin was the last 49ers player to win the award and did so following a Week 1 performance in 2013.

In a game where the 49ers defense uncharacteristically struggled to slow an opponent, Garoppolo helped carry the team to a win. He completed 26-of-35 pass attempts (74.3 percent) for 349 yards with four touchdowns, an interception, and a passer rating of 131.7 in the 49ers' 48-46 Week 14 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

"He's unbelievable," head coach Kyle Shanahan said of Garoppolo. "No matter what happens. He's had a lot of good games this year. He has made some times where he's made some mistakes. But he's the same guy every day.

"Just to be able to deal with that crowd noise and to deal with adversity that went in and out throughout the game, to be able to deal with me, he's the same and a lot of fun to coach."

Garoppolo has passed for 3,245 yards, 25 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a passer rating of 103.9 through 13 games this season. He is now 19-4 as a starter, including a record of 17-4 with the 49ers.

The San Francisco 49ers hold the No. 31 overall pick, but speculation abounds that they may seek to move before or during the first round of next week's NFL Draft. Alyssa Barbieri proposes such a scenario in her latest mock draft for USA Today's Touchdown Wire. Barbieri envisions the 49ers trading with the Miami Dolphins to move up 10 spots, selecting former Alabama offensive lineman JC Latham. Latham started 27 games

ESPN recently conducted a mock draft involving its NFL Nation reporters, where each assumed the general manager role for the team they cover. This unique process benefits from selectors who are intimately aware of each team's needs. The San Francisco 49ers are expected to address their offensive line with the No. 31 overall pick, marking the team's first first-round selection since 2021. Nick Wagoner, acting as general manager John Lynch, had to adapt his plan based on earlier selections taking several offensive tackles off draft boards. With those options gone, Wagoner opted for former Missouri pass rusher Darius
