49ers-Rams Injury Report: Dee Ford on pace to play; Todd Gurley and Aqib Talib don’t practice

Oct 10, 2019 at 3:48 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 6 contest against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California.

The 49ers will be without tackles Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon for some time. The good news is that none of their injuries were season-ending and each will return down the stretch.

Other than those players, there weren't any surprise injury notes from Thursday's practice participation report.

Defensive end Dee Ford practiced again, but was limited. He appears to be on pace to play on Sunday despite dealing with his ongoing knee and quadricep issues.

On the Rams side, both running back Todd Gurley and cornerback Aqib Talib didn't practice for the second-straight day. Those are some key injuries to keep an eye on through Sunday.

Winds forced the Rams to move practice indoors and limit the intensity of the Thursday session.

Below are Thursday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Rams, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 2 contest against the New York Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Neither tight end George Kittle (knee) nor cornerback Jason Verrett (hamstring) practiced. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said this week that he hopes Kittle can practice on Friday, but even if he can't, that doesn't necessarily rule him out for Sunday's game. Defensive end Dee Ford also did not practice. The injury report notes that it was due to a neck injury. The pass rusher was a full participant on Wednesday. Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (concussion) returned to practice, albeit in a blue no-contact jersey. He is in the concussion protocol. The 49ers will be without starter Richard Sherman for the next

John Lynch describes Dee Ford's recent injury as an 'Achilles tweak' but says the 49ers pass rusher is ready to go

By David Bonilla

Dee Ford was among several San Francisco 49ers players who spoke with reporters via Zoom on Thursday. At the same time, general manager John Lynch was on KNBR discussing the team as it prepares for Week 1 on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Ford fought through injuries last season and then suffered what was reported as a calf injury during training camp. The good news is that he has practiced all week, hasn't appeared on any injury reports and seems to be set to play this weekend. Ford said he hopes to be more available this season. "When you're dealing with a calf, you don't want to risk it getting to that Achilles tendon," Ford said of the most recent
