49ers signing former Texans WR Chris Thompson, per report

The San Francisco 49ers are signing former Houston Texans wide receiver Chris Thompson, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Thompson replaces wide receiver Max McCaffrey, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

Thompson is 25 years old. The Texans signed the receiver as an undrafted free agent out of Florida in 2017. He recorded five catches for 84 yards as a rookie but was waived on August 28, 2018.

Thompson most recently played for the Orlando Apollos of the short-lived Alliance of American Football.

The San Francisco 49ers have signed safety Chris Edwards to a one-year deal. The team has also opened the practice window for two players on injured reserve — running backs Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. Mostert has been on injured reserve since October 24 as he recovered from a high-ankle sprain during a Week 6 contest against the Los Angeles Rams. The San Francisco 49ers announced that the team has officially placed cornerbacks Jamar Taylor and Ken Webster on injured reserve. The team also waived safety Chris Edwards. Taylor and Webster were both injured during Sunday's 23-20 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Taylor suffered a torn ACL, and Webster sustained what head coach Kyle Shanahan described as a "pretty severe hamstring pull." The injuries end their seasons.
