49ers hosting 63 prospects during today’s local pro day, including Stanford WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside

Apr 17, 2019 at 8:59 AM--

The San Francisco 49ers are holding their local pro day today at 1:00 p.m. PT on the Levi's Stadium field in Santa Clara. Attendees will have an opportunity to work out for the 49ers coaching staff, executives, and scouts.

The local pro day will feature athletes from college programs in the area including Stanford, Cal, San Jose State, and other schools. Draft prospects from the Bay Area who played for college teams elsewhere are also eligible to take part.

Today's attendees do not count against the 49ers' 30-player limit for pre-draft visits as teams are allowed to host an unlimited number of local prospects.

The 49ers released a roster of the local pro day participants today. A limited number of those players will be made available to the media following the workout.

The 49ers currently have six selections in the upcoming draft, which kicks off on Thursday, April 25 from Nashville, Tennessee.

Football Outsiders has once again taken a look at the best young players in the league who don't have a lot of playing time. The feature for ESPN casts aside first-round picks and other top prospects, and instead focuses on those who didn't receive a lot of fanfare. "This is a list of players who have a strong chance to make an impact in the NFL despite their lack of draft stock and the fact they weren't immediate NFL starters," wrote Rivers McCown. The list is a top 25 ranking, and two players represent the San Francisco 49ers. The first — 26-year-old offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill — comes in at No. 10. The

Few expected Alex Smith to ever get back on the football field after his severe leg injury on November 18, 2018. There was concern about whether or not he would ever walk again. Even his life was at risk. Surprisingly, it was reported in July that Smith had been cleared for full football activity two years after breaking his tibia and fibula during a game with Washington. Now, the former No. 1 overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers may be close to realizing his dream of a miraculous comeback. He passed his physical last week but wasn't cleared for football activities quite yet. Instead, he landed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. "As

Jimmy Garoppolo's confidence helped him during 49ers' flirtation with Tom Brady

By David Bonilla
Aug 4, 2020

Rumors swirled early in the offseason about the San Francisco 49ers potentially looking into signing future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady. It turns out, some of those rumors were true. The team's decision-makers thoroughly discussed the possibility, spending multiple days reviewing film of not just Brady, but their own quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo. You know, the guy who helped the 49ers win 13 games, a division crown, and home-field advantage in the playoffs on the way to the Super Bowl. In the end, the team decided early on that it made more long-term sense to move forward with Garoppolo rather than a now-43-year-old Brady. General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't keep Garoppolo in the dark, though. They kept the lines of
