LB Donavin Newsom, who suffered a concussion and was then transported to Stanford Medical Center via an ambulance, is reportedly doing fine and will be released from the hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

CB Dontae Johnson did not practice after suffering a concussion during Tuesday's practice. He is unlikely to play in Friday's exhibition game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

WR Pierre Garçon was given a veteran day off. TE George Kittle did not participate in team drills. Following practice, head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Kittle's hamstring tightened up on Tuesday and they he would be surprised if the tight end played on Friday.

Below are some quick notes from Wednesday's practice, which was the 49ers' 11th of training camp. It was the final full practice before the team flies to Kansas City on Thursday.

Wednesday's practice was the first non-padded practice since their second practice on August 29. There was no one-on-one session.

Pro Bowl C Jeremy Zuttah was released by the team and his roster spot was replaced by LB Sean Porter, who practiced with the team. Shanahan said that the decision to release Zuttah was more a reflection on how C Daniel Kilgore has practiced and the team wanted to give Zuttah an opportunity to make another roster.

Rookie LB Reuben Foster, who worked with the first-team, suffered an ankle sprain during team drills and left practice to get re-taped. Multiple reports say that Foster briefly returned to practice before sitting out at the end. "Didn't appear serious," said Joe Fann of 49ers.com. "Felt more cautionary."

Rookie CB Ahkello Witherspoon hauled in an interception off of QB Matt Barkley while covering WR DeAndre Smelter.

Rookie QB C.J. Beathard continues to look sharp in practice, according to multiple reports.

"Beathard, however, had an on-the-money deep shot to rookie Victor Bolden that traveled nearly 50 yards," wrote Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. "Bolden beat Davis and Sunseri but could not hold onto the pass. Beathard also threw a crisp crossing-route pass to receiver Tim Patrick in front of Sunseri."

DL Solomon Thomas and LB Aaron Lynch both had sacks during practice.

Brock Purdy hopes to organize throwing session ahead of 49ers training camp

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

The San Francisco 49ers will hold a mandatory minicamp from June 4 through 6, officially concluding the team's offseason program. After that, the Niners will break for over a month and return to the Santa Clara facilities for training camp in late July. Between that time, starting quarterbacks will often organize throwing sessions with their receivers in an effort to build chemistry ahead of the rigors of training camp. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been unable to participate in such sessions over the last two years. The last overall draft pick in 2022, Purdy had yet to make a name for himself during his first offseason. Last year, he was still recovering from offseason surgery on his throwing arm. RELATED:

Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft. Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his
