Anthony Davis will report to training camp for the San Francisco 49ers today, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. However, the NFL has yet to announce his reinstatement. He had officially filed his paperwork for reinstatement into the NFL on Monday, July 25. This was all following his surprise retirement last offseason.

Once Davis is officially reinstated by the league, the 49ers will need to make a roster move to make room for him. They are currently at the 90-player limit. Of course, medical examinations are occurring today so it is conceivable that at least one player won't be ready for training camp and may be placed on an injury list.

The team reported to training camp today with their first practice on Sunday at 10:25 AM. All reports had indicated that the 49ers intend to welcome Davis and have him compete for the job at right tackle, which was the offensive line's weakest position heading into camp.

Davis had retired due to health concerns, including the lingering effects of a concussion he suffered in 2014. Since his retirement, Davis has been promising to return to the NFL once he was healthy, but has also shown great frustration with the 49ers organization. Last weekend, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area speculated that one of the reasons that Davis and 49ers general manager Trent Baalke may have been "butted heads" this offseason might be due to the portion of the signing bonus that Davis had to return to the 49ers. He was forced to return some of that money when he retired and didn't fulfill his entire contract. He may have been trying to recoup that money.

While Davis could have filed for reinstatement at any point this offseason, he chose to wait until the week prior to 49ers training camp, which puts him behind others in learning the new coaching staff's offense.

Davis' injuries limited him to only seven games in 2014. He was the 11th overall selection by the 49ers in 2010 NFL Draft out of Rutgers and had played his entire career with San Francisco, started every game prior to 2014.

Numerous posts on Twitter have frustrated fans who were looking forward to Davis' return. For example, on April 1, he took a jab at the 49ers' general manager on Twitter saying, "Dealing with Trent [Baalke] is giving me a headache." That tweet has since been deleted.

On April 27, a frustrated Davis tweeted, "The 49ers should Draft an Offensive Tackle in the top 10." That tweet was later deleted as well. The 49ers took offensive guard Joshua Garnett in the first round and then selected two tackles, John Theus and Fahn Cooper, in the fifth round.

"I do not want to work with a front office or anyone else who seemingly doesn't want to win as bad as I do," Davis later said via Twitter. "Would you happily rent your body out to people that bulls**t you and constantly try to manipulate you? I hope you'd stand up for yourself."

Since then, his agent Drew Rosenhaus has stated that Davis and the 49ers have "patched things up." Now, he just needs to prove that he is physically and mentally ready to start for the team. "Whatever damage took place, in my estimation, it has been repaired," said Rosenhaus via Pro Football Talk radio.
