Last week, Cantor Technology released the early spreads for every regular season NFL game through week 16. The San Francisco 49ers were one of two teams that were not favored in any of the games on their schedule.

The 49ers did slightly better than the Cleveland Browns, who were underdogs during each matchup through 16 weeks. There was no favorite for three of the 49ers' home games in 2016. Those opponents were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets.

The 49ers didn't fare as well – which is tough to believe – when Pro Football Focus released its ranking of NFL team rosters. San Francisco came in dead last, behind even the Browns, who many consider to be the worst team of 2016.

Pro Football Focus states the following as the method of ranking via ESPN.

To determine the rankings, we took the past two years of PFF data and, giving the 2015 season more weight, averaged out the grades for each roster. Then we added a closer evaluation for added context, which allowed us, for example, to reward teams that have an excellent quarterback situation but a relative hole along the defensive line when it came to run defense

While the 49ers still have talent on the roster with players like OT Joe Staley and ILB NaVorro Bowman, Pro Football Focus attributed the team's lack of depth as the reason for the last place ranking.

The 49ers are heading into the 2016 with their third head coach in as many years. The team finished 5-11 last season under then head coach Jim Tomsula. Chip Kelly, who has had success in college and the NFL, is their new head coach. The team kicks off a mandatory minicamp this week.

What do you think of the ranking? Are the 49ers really the worst roster in the league?

Where the 49ers landed in PFF's latest power ranking

By David Bonilla

While it would be foolish to declare that the San Francisco 49ers lack any deficiencies, the team remains one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. That alone is enough to place them high on media power rankings. The truth is, power rankings mean very little at this stage in the offseason. Yes, free agency has come and gone, but NFL rosters are about to undergo further changes this week, with the 2024 NFL Draft slated for Thursday. Pro Football Focus' Amelia Probst posted a power ranking based on the analytics site's data on each roster and the offseason roster moves made so far. The San Francisco 49ers came in at No. 2, behind only the Kansas City

PFF high on this cornerback for 49ers in mock draft

By David Bonilla

Analyst Dane Brugler of The Athletic grades former Iowa State cornerback T.J. Tampa as a second or third-round draft pick and ranks him 55th overall on his big board. Pro Football Focus, however, holds a higher opinion of the young defensive back. In his latest mock draft, the site's lead analyst, Sam Monson, has the San Francisco 49ers selecting Tampa with the No. 31 overall pick. "T.J. Tampa fits the prototype of a 49ers cornerback," Monson explains. "He has had consecutive seasons of very impressive play and allowed just 240 yards on 49 targets last season. The team doesn't necessarily need him to make an immediate impact, but they could

49ers offer Deebo Samuel assurances regarding roster status

By David Bonilla

Amidst swirling trade rumors surrounding Brandon Aiyuk, the speculation surrounding Deebo Samuel's future with the San Francisco 49ers seems to have quieted down. According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 49ers have assured Samuel that he will not be involved in any pre- or post-draft transactions, ensuring his place on the roster for the time being. "Samuel, who signed a three-year, $71.55 million extension before the 2022 season, has been assured by his bosses that he will not be dealt during or after the draft," Silver reported, citing a source familiar with the discussions. 49ers mailbag: Will Brandon Aiyuk be on the roster on Friday morning? Will SF draft another quarterback?

By Marc Adams

We're just over 24 hours before round one of the NFL Draft begins. The San Francisco 49ers are scheduled to have their first pick in the opening round since 2021 when they drafted Trey Lance. That didn't turn out well, but there is optimism that the team will be able to make its roster better over the next few days. GM John Lynch spoke on Monday and said there's a possibility the team could trade out of the first round. I doubt that would go over well with the fanbase, especially since they haven't had a first-rounder in the past two years. But if it's a good trade that lands the 49ers some quality picks, we could see that happen, especially if there aren't any players at pick 31 that the team is excited about. We opened up the 49ers Webzone Mailbag to see what
