49ers sign 21 rookies and cut 4 players, including QB Dylan Thompson

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Friday that they have signed nine of their 11 drafted rookie class, per Chris Biderman of Niners Wire. The only rookies that remain unsigned are first-round selection Joshua Garnett, a guard out of Stanford, and third-round selection Will Redmond, a cornerback out of Mississippi State.


The signing of first round selection DeForest Buckner was first reported earlier today by Rand Getlin of NFL Network.

The 49ers released four players. They are QB Dylan Thompson, G Jordan Devey, K Corey Acosta, and RB Kendall Gaskins, per Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.


Thompson was part of a crowded quarterback group that includes Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert, who will likely battle for the starting job. The team also signed free agent Thad Lewis and drafted Jeff Driskel out of Louisiana Tech in the sixth round of the draft.

The 49ers have also signed the following 12 undrafted free agents.

49ers sign CB Rock Ya-Sin to a one-year deal

The San Francisco 49ers announced that they have signed cornerback Rock Ya-Sin to a one-year deal. He becomes the third cornerback to join the team this offseason.
