It is no surprise that
Cal QB Jared Goff continues to lead mock drafts as the San Francisco 49ers' projected pick with the seventh overall selection in this month's NFL Draft. What is interesting is that Goff's lead as the top candidate by "experts" and fans continues to grow. The former Golden Bear quarterback has led our survey, now consisting of 105 mock drafts, for four straight weeks.

The top two projected players are both quarterbacks and consume 78.1 percent of the total votes all by themselves. Goff has 58.1 percent while
North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz, sitting in a distant second place, is projected to land with the 49ers by 20 percent of the mocks surveyed.
Last week, the third place spot was tied by
UCLA OLB Myles Jack and
Ohio State DE Joey Bosa. This week, the pair are joined by
Oregon DE DeForest Buckner.
Quarterbacks make up exactly 80 percent of the projections for the 49ers, a one percent increase from last week. Of course, that high percentage is not surprising considering the amount of media attention that is currently focused on the
Colin Kaepernick situation.

In 2015, an overwhelming majority of mock drafts had the 49ers taking
Arik Armstead out of Oregon with their first-round selection. While that actually happened, San Francisco was able to do so after trading down a few spots.

7-round mock draft from The Athletic sees 49ers fortifying defense early
Analyst Dane Brugler recently revealed his seven-round mock draft for The Athletic, forecasting all 257 selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, set to kick off next week.
"Piecing together a mock like this is time consuming, but I enjoy the exercise, because it allows me to focus on each team's needs, organizational trends and prospect-team pairings that make sense based on '30' visits, league buzz and overall interest," Brugler wrote.
Most expect the 49ers to address the trenches early in the draft, and Brugler has the team doing that. It's just not on the offensive side of the football. In fact, Brugler doesn't have San Francisco
7-round mock draft: 49ers trade up to fortify secondary
The San Francisco 49ers first selection in next week's draft comes at No. 31 overall. However, NFL Media analyst Chad Reuter doesn't have the Bay Area team remaining at that spot in the first round. In his seven-round mock draft, he envisions the 49ers striking a deal with the Green Bay Packers to move up six spots to No. 25 overall, where they select former Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry.
Reuter notes, "Whether it's for a cornerback like McKinstry, an offensive lineman or a receiver, the 49ers could very well give up a mid-round pick to acquire one of the few missing pieces on an otherwise potent roster."

The San Francisco 49ers have overhauled their defensive line in free agency, bidding farewell to defensive tackle Arik Armstead and defensive end Chase Young while bolstering their ranks with the signings of defensive ends Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos. Additionally, they acquired defensive tackle Maliek Collins via trade.
Having focused primarily on the defensive side of the ball in free agency, the 49ers are widely anticipated to turn their attention to the offensive side in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Analyst Steve Palazzolo unveiled a first-round mock draft for Pro Football Focus, attempting to forecast the selections for each NFL team within the top 32 picks. While the San Francisco 49ers concentrated on strengthening the defensive line in free agency, Palazzolo envisions the team continuing to fortify that side of the ball.
In his mock draft, Palazzolo predicts that the 49ers will select former Iowa State cornerback T.J. Tampa with the No. 31 overall pick.
