Game Day: Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers

Nov 28, 2015 at 9:00 PM--

On Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers (3-7) will host the Arizona Cardinals (8-2) at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The Cardinals are coming off of a 34-31 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals. The 49ers are coming off of a 29-13 defeat against the Seattle Seahawks.

The last time the 49ers and Cardinals met, a September 27 matchup in Glendale, Arizona, the 49ers gave up 446 net yards of total offense and 47 points. It was the third most yards that the 49ers have given up this season (Seahawks, Giants, Steelers). The 49ers look to split the season series with the Cardinals for the second consecutive season. The 49ers have won each of the team's last six home match-ups against the Cardinals and seven of the last eight at home.

49ers QB Blaine Gabbert looks to continue to prove his doubters wrong with a solid showing against Arizona. Against the Seahawks in Seattle, Gabbert found TE Vance McDonald for a 19-yard touchdown, which marked McDonald's first career touchdown reception. The play capped off a nine-play 92-yard drive in the final two minutes of the first half. Gabbert finished the game with 98.2 passer rating.

According to Pro Football Focus, Gabbert has been sacked only 7.4 percent of the time while under pressure compared to former starting QB Colin Kaepernick, who was sacked 24.1 percent of the time. Gabber's completion percentage while under pressure has been 65 percent compared to Kaepernick's 35.2. Kaepernick will miss the remainder of the season after opting to have surgery on his torn labrum in the left shoulder. The injury will require four-to-six months of recovery.

This week, Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu chimed in on the now irrelevant quarterback controversy saying that Gabbert was a better option for the 49ers than Kaepernick.

"We just knew Kaepernick's tendencies. We knew what he liked to do. We knew which way he wanted to roll out. We knew what side of the field he liked to read to. You don't pick up those same things with Gabbert. He's better in the pocket. He has a better feel for coverages. It seems like he can get to the line and see a coverage and then go to a different play or see a coverage and not throw the ball. You can see Gabbert's maturity and the different things he does well that Kaepernick doesn't do well." – Tyrann Mathieu

For the rest of the offense, Vance McDonald finished the game against Seattle by setting career highs in receptions with four, receiving yards with 65 and also registered a career-long 36-yard reception. With five receptions for 93 yards on the day, WR Anquan Boldin moved past former WR Irving Fryar into 18th all-time for most receiving yards with 12,871 for his career.

On defense, LB Ahmad Brooks brought down Seahawks QB Russell Wilson for his 4th sack of the season and now has 45 sacks in his career while DT Quinton Dial and LB Aaron Lynch each registered half a sack. This season, Lynch has recorded 12 tackles for a loss, leading NFL linebackers in that category. The defense will be without DL Glenn Dorsey for the remainder of the season. He left last weekend's matchup with a torn ACL on the first defensive play of the game.

For the Cardinals, QB Carson Palmer will be looking to set a single season franchise record for touchdown passes and the team's fifth straight victory. Palmer has passed for over 300 yards in three straight games. A win over the 49ers would be the Cardinals' first road victory over San Francisco in seven years. All three of the 49ers' wins this season have been at home.

For the fourth straight game, the 49ers will be without RB Carlos Hyde, who continues to recover from a stress fracture in his left foot. He last played on October 22 in a loss to the Seahawks at Levi's Stadium. RB Shaun Draughn is likely to start in his place.

49ers attend Arizona pro day to watch Jordan Morgan

By David Bonilla
Mar 14

Nearly all NFL teams were represented at Arizona's pro day, with only three teams choosing to skip the event. The San Francisco 49ers were among those in attendance to scout the draft prospects, including potential first-round pick, tackle Jordan Morgan. The Niners currently hold 10 selections in the upcoming draft, with their first pick at No. 31 overall. Of note, it wasn't just any 49ers scout present at Arizona's pro day. NFL Draft Diamonds reports that it was the team's director of college scouting. Tariq Ahmad held that position before recently being promoted, along with R.J. Gillen, to co-directors of player personnel. It's assumed that NFL Draft Diamonds meant one of these two

By David Bonilla
Mar 15

Jon Feliciano is having a great Friday. The offensive lineman is re-signing with the San Francisco 49ers, returning to the team for a second season. He also received some bonus happy news: he won't have to block Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald anymore. Donald announced his retirement on Friday. His next NFL stop will be in Canton as a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Cheers to what's next. Extending a big thank you to the Rams and all of the fans for your support over these last 10 years. Much love.

Charvarius Ward willing to help 49ers land Tre'Davious White

By David Bonilla
4 hrs

The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand. Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction. Ward described White as a "hand in glove
