49ers trade TE Vernon Davis to Denver

Nov 2, 2015 at 2:12 PM--

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the San Francisco 49ers have traded TE Vernon Davis to the Denver Broncos. In return, they will swap 6th and 7th-round selections in 2016's NFL Draft and receive a 6th-round selection in 2017.

Davis was the sixth overall selection by the 49ers in the 2006 NFL Draft. He was the 49ers' longest tenured player. Now that honor falls to T Joe Staley. Davis, a two-time Pro Bowler (2009, 2013), had 441 receptions for 5,640 yards and 55 receiving touchdowns during his career with the 49ers.

Over the past two seasons, Davis has been ineffective with the 49ers. His name surfaced among some controversy recently when it was reported that he may have been the player that criticized 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick in a heated exchange with Joe Staley during a team meeting.

Davis was scheduled to become a free agent after this season and it was widely perceived that the 49ers would not try to re-sign him.
