Tonight, the San Francisco 49ers will face the task of trying to stop Peyton Manning and the high powered Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado.

Last week, the 49ers (4-2) defeated the St. Louis Rams 31-17. Coincidentally, the Broncos (4-1) defeated the New York Jets by the same score.

Manning will be looking to make history against the 49ers. He currently has 506 career touchdowns, just two short of the all-time record of 508 which is held by former Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre.

Holding Manning to under three touchdowns will be a tall order for the 49ers. This season, he has averaged three a game and has only once recorded less than three, a week 5 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

The 49ers defense, already without linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who tore his ACL and MCL during last season's NFC Championship game, Glenn Dorsey, who is currently on the team's Injured Reserve/Designated to Return List, and Aldon Smith, who is serving a nine game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct a substance abuse policies, will be without another key player. Patrick Willis has been ruled out with a toe injury. Chris Borland will fill in for Willis.

On offense, the 49ers will be without a key offensive lineman in guard Mike Iupati, who suffered a concussion on Monday night against the Rams.

Cornerbacks Tramaine Brock (toe) and Chris Culliver (shoulder), tackle Anthony Davis (knee, ankle), and safety Jimmie Ward (quadricep) remain questionable for the game.

This season, Manning has completed 66.5% of his passes and thrown for 1,530 yards and 15 touchdowns.

On Monday night, the 49ers started slow falling behind 14-0 against the St. Louis Rams before waking up and outscoring them 31-3. The team had a season-high 432 yards on offense with quarterback Colin Kaepernick accounting for 343 of those through the air. He also had three touchdowns in one of his better games of the season. Monday night also marked the first time this season that Kaepernick has not been sacked.

49ers running back Frank Gore only had 38 yards against the Rams. However, he carried the ball 16 times. The 49ers are 4-0 in games this season where Gore has carried the ball at least 16 times.

The 49ers pass defense, which ranks second in the league will take on the Broncos pass offense which ranks fourth in the league.
