Sean Smith

According to Rotoworld.com, the San Francisco 49ers are among one of the teams interested in free agent cornerback Sean Smith. The other teams rumored to be interested include the Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Detroit Lions.

The Chiefs were interested in Smith, but agreed to a deal with cornerback Dunta Robinson yesterday. Rotoworld says that:

Robinson is believed to be getting starter money from the Chiefs. With Brandon Flowers also getting paid as a starter, giivng Smith top-of-market money no longer makes sense.

Smith has played four seasons with Miami Dolphins after being drafted by them in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He has had 211 tackles, 5 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles.

The 49ers are in need of some help with pass coverage, especially if the team loses safety Dashon Goldson to free agency. Another key need is along the defensive line to assist with the pass rush.
