Heading into training camp last year, the 49ers' situation at quarterback would have rated as the worst among the four teams in the NFC West. A year later, in an astonishing turnaround, it may rate as the best. It's certainly the most settled with Alex Smith coming off the best season of his career and the other division teams looking for more at the position than each got during the 2011 season.
