shocked? surprised? who the hell cares steve smith is as good as done, the remaining WRs are good but they are not WR1 material and AJ Green is too good to pass up whereas gabbert and newton are overrated, imo (going 1st ovr).
i know that there is no FA right now and that the panthers could need a QB with a strong arm if they wanna play in aN air coryell. but they wont be much better anyway next year (i.e. i see them drafting in the top10, if not in the top5 where they could fill their QB-need).
dareus is another possibility b/c they simply dont have an interior d-line...but you can find adequate DTs in the lower rounds...

In a fairly unsurprising move, Denver takes the players who fits both their biggest need and is arguably the best player in the draft.

The Broncos select:

Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama

I wouldn't say he is the best player, probably top 5...but he plays a premium position. Denver needs someone like him badly.

I said arguably and it's an easy argument. He's usually rated 2-4, maybe 5 at worst.

The players rated above him usually are Newton, who has huge bust potential, Von Miller, who is probably a little overrated given his size likely fit at one specific position, Green, who while very talented may make much less impact at WR than an equally talented Dlineman will make, and Peterson, who may end up converting to safety, which limits his value.

I'm not saying he's absolutely the best player, but you can easily make an argument for it, and certainly that he may be the safest player and most likely to make an immediate impact of the usual top 5.

Niners are looking to trade down, so if anyone wants to move up, please let me know.

With the 3rd pick in the 2011 NFL Draft the Buffalo Bills select:

Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M



Maybe a bit surprising with the top two QB's still on the board but the Bills looked at many factors with this pick. The Bills have lacked a franchise QB for some time but I'm not sure either Newton or Gabbert fit the bill(no pun intended). Fitzpatrick might not be a guy that leads the Bills to the promised land but he proved last year that he deserves a shot to show what he can do as the guy. He and Stevie Johnson had solid chemistry last year and IMO the offense wasn't what holds this team back.

Now the defense on the other hand is absolutely horrible. With Dareus gone the Bills go with the BPA on their board and a guy that fills perhaps their biggest need. A pass rushing demon. Von Miller has continued to rise up draft boards all offseason and the Bills coaching staff got a first hand look at what Miller can provide to this teams anemic pass rush.

Hopefully Miller can help the Bills get rid of that bad taste in their mouth called Aaron Maybin.

Cincinatti Bengals select Patrick Peterson CB LSU



Peterson is the best cornerback prospect for the 2011 NFL Draft. The LSU Tiger just completed his junior season in Baton Rouge, but he is--not surprisingly--leaving early. And why not? The guy can do it all. Peterson was arguably the best shutdown corner in college football and he has been clocked as fast as 4.30 in the 40-yard dash.
This season he had four interceptions (which he returned for 134 yards), six pass breakups, a blocked kick, and 1.5 sacks. Peterson averaged 29.1 yards on 32 kick returns and averaged 16.1 yards on 26 punt returns, two of which he returned for scores. He won the Jim Thrope Award, the Chuck Bednarik Award, and was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year and SEC Special Teams Player of the Year by the conference's coaches.

His combination of size and speed really is incredible, as he stands at 6'1'' and 222 pounds. Peterson can be physical at the line of scrimmage while also matching opponents' best receivers stride for stride. With experience to boot, he heads into the NFL with basically no question marks. Peterson should be the first cornerback off the board and that will likely come with one of the first three overall picks.

Cleveland Browns select Robert Quinn DE North Carolina



Robert Quinn's situation at North Carolina is a little different than that of some of the other players who were kicked off of the team after an investigation by the NCAA into whether some players received benefits from agents. Quinn is just a junior and, while he is considered permanently suspended by the NCAA, Quinn has time to appeal the ruling. However, Quinn is a great talent and he could just declare for the draft and put the collegiate world behind him.
Quinn certainly has enough potential and talent to be a first round draft pick. As a sophomore he nearly took home the Atlantic Coast Conference's Defensive Player of the Year honors, but fell just short of Georgia Tech's Derrick Morgan. Quinn totaled 52 tackles, 19.0 tackles-for-loss, 11.0 sacks and 15 quarterback hurries. There is little doubt that Quinn would have continued to put up great numbers had he played this season.

What stands between Quinn and the first round of the NFL Draft is interviews with NFL personnel leading up to April. Quinn is a physical specimen who has the size, strength and speed to be a great defensive end. It is unlikely that he will lose those skills by sitting out a season.

2/8 Update: If Quinn has continued to hit the weight room he should be a first round draft pick…and a high one at that. Quinn's weakness has also been his strength at the point of attack and he has really had a year to get ready for the NFL Combine and prove to everybody that he is still the explosive athlete that he was in 2009.

4/4 Update: Quinn has the talent of a top five pick, or even higher. However, NFL teams had plenty to talk to him about during the NFL combine. The issues surrounding the NCAA is one thing, but his health is turning into a bigger issue. Quinn has a tumor at the base of his brain which was removed after high school. It has not been an issue since, but adding that to the list of things that could go wrong is scaring away a few teams. With all of that pass rushing talent in this class, do not be surprised if Quinn falls a lot further than he should. However, that will not be past the 11th or 12th overall pick.
