As uninspiring as QB Alex Smith's play has been this practice, backup QB David Carr has been even worse. He's already been picked off twice and looks uncomfortable throwing anything besides checkdowns. QB Nate Davis might challenge him before long.
LOL, I thought Smith was firing deep TD passes this morning...and now his play was "uninspiring?"
This is why I never take any of these reports too seriously. These are the same reports that lauded JTO.
Along with the coaches... He did beat Smith out didnt he?
Smith was still hurt now wasn't he!!!
Come on! Don't use a broken bone in his throwing shoulder as an excuse!!!!!
JTO won the job because he knew Martz's gay offense better, get your facts straight. How's JTO doin now?
Certainly not getting any starting gigs handed to him without earning it like someone else I know.
lol Alex Smith is in no way shape or form being "handed" a starting gig. He has most certainly earned it, by playing in 9 1/2 games, putting up numbers like he had played an entire 16 game season, having a BETTER QB rating than Peyton Manning. And now with continuity this season with the same OC, good numbers from last season for only playing in 9 1/2 games, there's no reason Alex Smith doesn't deserve the starting job. Not to mention the fact that he's molded into a fine leader supposedly.
And the fact he lost the starting job to JTO before he re-aggravated his shoulder, CLEARLY means that his throwing arm/shoulder, was never 100% back to the way it was to START with.
Peyton Manning had a QB rating of 99 last year compared to Smith's 80, so Im not sure about your math on that one... but thats besides the point. My biggest issue is that all of those stats were achieved out of the spread formation and a good chunk of them were against soft, prevent defenses.
Until Smith shows that he can be a productive out of a pro-style offense (i.e. operating from under center), our offense will never achieve enough balance to be successful over a 16 game season.
I sincerely hope that he proves me wrong, but Im not getting my hopes up.
Who the f**k cares "how" he produced the numbers he did. The fact is he played better than he ever has before in his career. You really are making "Alexcuses".
Wouldnt an "Alexcuse" come from a supporter of the kid trying to validate his accomplishments, not a critic trying to do the opposite? I think you might be mistaken in your idea of what an excuse is.
You're making excuses as to why Smith was successful last year. By basically saying, oh, he only produced all of his good stats while in the spread/shotgun formation. Like get real dude.
Get the f**k out of here already with the on-going Alex Smith bulls**t! There is a dedicated thread for you long-lash-loving, Alexcuse-making, fans so go there and stop ruining this thread!
Excuse me? You're only contributing to "ruin" this thread by replying to my postings. So why don't YOU gtfo kid.
Since when is 27 a "Kid"??? Also, what adult says "like get real dude"??
Stop b***hing and take it to the appropriate thread! As if there weren't enough:
Mr. Long lashes
I've quietly posted on this forum for several months, but this makes bile rise up into my throat. I was born into the Niner family, my dad having played 10 years as a linebacker for the 9ers (Frank Nunley). Your blind hate disgusts me. If you can't contribute to a thread without childish retorts, please stop replying. I only bring this up because I can't stand it much longer before I go to another board.
Your dad was a heck of a linebacker. Good to have you with us. I'm afraid you are not going to find it any better at other sights, some are considerably worse.

Nunley was one of my Dads favorite players, #57!
Gotta love a guy who plays for just one team for his whole career (10 years)

Does anybody else think that Crabtree has had a few more drops than usual?

Everybody drops balls, but Crabtree consistently makes tough catches in practice and snags balls down that most receivers wouldn't catch. He doesn't have butterfingers during games, so it's all good.

You've got a good point. I dunno, but both Matt's have made it a point that Crabtree has been dropping balls. I don't think he's got butter fingers either. I just thought it was unusual.

OT Alex Boone vs. OLB Ahmad Brooks. This was the marquee event. On the first snap, Boone rode Brooks out of the play. "I can tell you that was one of your better ones," a happy Mike Solari told Boone after. On snap two, however, Brooks started outside but then tore inside with an impressive move that would have crushed the quarterback.Somebody yelled for a tiebreaker, so the two lined up for a rare third battle. That one, sadly, turned out to be a stalemate. Verdict: Draw.

I hope he breaks out this year. He certainly has RB moves to use as our pass rushing demon. I guess he's using those on that inside move, huh? Looking forward to our OLBs getting more QB meat, bout time too.

Wrong again... Here is the definition of an excuse:
Quote:
To explain (a fault or an offense) in the hope of being forgiven or understood
You cant make excuses for a good performance, only a bad one. For example, a common excuse for why Smith has failed up to this point is because he was mishandled by Nolan.
What I was doing would be more appropriately classified as belittling he performance... Im not trying to be mean here, just letting you know you are completely wrong.
well, to be as acurate as possible: By saying that you are "belittling" him you would infer that he is of enough stature to belittle. Therefore, you have said that he is at an elevated position to which you are bringing him down. Thus, you would, by letting hte man know he is completely wrong, inadvertantly, make him right....
Now, if you want to say that your analysis of him is accurate it might be better put that you are, "disembelleshing" or "disadorning" him.
Just trying to fight the fan base ignorance....
And back to the dictionary:
Belittle:
Quote:
To represent or speak of as contemptibly small or unimportant.
Doesnt really elude the necessity of a preexistent stature for someone or thing to be the subject of belittlement... But if you want assume that, then I would respond with the notion that putting up those stats over nine games achieved some level of stature amongst his fan base, and it was that stature which was the subject of my belittlement.
Furthermore, I was merely objecting to his use of the term "Alexcuses", not Smith's stature as a QB. So by that criteria, I was, in fact, 100% correct.
Next.

Yes, however, your usage of "belittle" suggested a definition of lowering stature of Alex Smith, not his stature with the fanbase. As you said, "belittling his performance" not "belittling the perception of his performance". As his performance is in the nominitve case and there are no other subjects within the sentence the verb to belittle becomes attached to it. Therefore, your belittlement cannot be attached to the "alexcuses" but to Alex himself.
Remember, words do not have definitions they have uses; only determined by the context within which they are used - throwing a definition out there that fits what you were trying to say does not mean that's what you said. (I sure hope you know I'm just having fun with this btw).
In short, "disadorn" or "disembellesh" would still be the better word choice.
Please stop this nonsense or this thread will be locked.

maximill15, yes I do think it will be a brawl with the cards. Both D's are very good with the Cards having the better secondary and passing game, imo. Both DL's are very good, with our 2nd level D among the best in the game when healthy. I also think the cards get the nod at OL at the momement. Lutui reported to camp at 396 and has impressed all with his condtioning. Wells is also having a good camp thus far.
Toss up, imo, despite the fact that we've beaten them like dogs the last 2-3yrs. TO's will determine outcome, as they always do!

I could honestly see Boone earning the starting RT job until Davis is ready to take the reigns. I personally feel like he provides a bit more security.

How? He has never played in an NFL game let alone started in one yet. I think Boone will be happy to make the team and I do think he has a decent shot to make it but even if he does, I doubt he even dresses this year.
