2) Secondly, you misunderstand me. I'm not advocating free agency as the panacea to the Warriors problems.

The Warriors main problem is that they have NEVER properly rebuilt this roster from the ground up. Instead, for the past decade, the Warriors have been stuck in a continous cycle where they consistently make stupid front office decisions and then spend years afterward trying to correct their mistake.

  • Hey fans. We've got an exciting core of Troy Murphy, MIke Dunleavy, and Jason Richardson. We'll finally be able to compete for that 8th spot. Don't worry we got Murphy and Dunleavy locked up for $100 million combined. Then desperately try anything and everything to get rid of Dunleavy and Murphy until the Pacers bail us out.
  • We need interior defense. Here comes 6 years, $42 million for Foyle. Then spend the next half decade trying to escape that contract.
  • We need a veteran prescence at point guard. Let's go get Derek Fisher for 6 years, $37 million. Oh wait, now we need to trade him.
  • Baron's gone? It's all right fans because we've signed Corey Maggette to a 5 year, $50 million. Spend the next couple years trying to wriggle out of that one.
  • Oh hey, Stephen Jackson helped us make the playoffs. Let's reward him with 3 years, $28 million. Oh wait, now he's a malcontent and a bad contract, let's try to wriggle out of this one.
  • Andris Biedrins shows promise and the center position is thin. 6 years, $66M for the Latvian. Hmm....
  • David Lee is an All-Star. 5 years, $65 million for an automatic 20/10.

Year after year after year. Stupid contract after stupid f**king contract. Followed by desperately dumping that bad contract (or attempting to). That's not how you build a winning team.

You build a winning team by accumulating undervalued assets. By MAXIMIZING your salary cap space vs talent ratio, and wisely and efficiently spending your money.

By HOARDING draft picks and young players that you can use in future trades when a disgruntled superstar is available on the market.

By letting overvalued players walk. By mining through other league rosters and snatching up undervalued assets. Biding your time and waiting until you either get lucky in the draft or a superstar player becomes available via trade.

THEN, once you've finally gotten your superstar player either via the draft or via trade, you commence in building around him.

You now have salary cap space because you wisely spent your money. Thus, you can use the cap space to convince a second star player to join the first star player. Then you spend the remaining cap space on filling out your roster.

That is the ONLY FORMULA for success in the current NBA.

You don't spent $30 million on Richard Jefferson so you can get a late round pick that you probably could have bought for $2 million on draft day. That's stupid.

So you see...Money is absolutely everything.

And the teams that don't have any idea how to efficiently use their salary cap space are precisely the teams that are continually saddled with s**tty contracts like those of Andris Biedrins.

Those are the teams that are continually stuck in purgatory.

Yes. The ownership and management in the past was horrible. You may remember that I was one of their harshest critisc in here. I hate Stephen Jackson and thought giving him that deal was a joke. As for Lacob, nothing he has done compares to what Cohan and his cast of characters did. Well, not giving Biedrins the amnesty was up there but that was based on some crazy notion that he still had game.

He didnt pay 30 million for Jefferson. He paid one extra year ( or 11 million) to be rid of Jackson and get a #1 pick. Get your facts straight or did you just use 30 million for the uninformed in here?

No one is going to come to the Warriors anytime soon. Maybe down the road if Bogut is the real deal. Not now. That is why having some huge cap space in 2012 and 2013 is meaningless. If the Warriors can show that they have a potential playoff team with a true center and maybe a top pick in this years draft, then maybe just maybe you can get a player of value to come here. As in a couple years from now when Jefferson is off the books.
What I find real funny is that people in here ( I wont name names) think the Warriors should never have traded Monta. If teams thought a 6 '2" shooting guard who plays average defense at best was all that great they would have been lining up to make a trade. Reality is the W's fanbase totally overrate Monta as a complete player.

I would be upset with Lacob if he got this team, just took in the money from all the attendance, and was content to have a 10 seed every year. Moving Ellis was the first step and getting a couple of #1s along with Bogut will put them in a much better spot to be in a position to land those 2nd tier FAs down the road.

Stephen Jackson is a horrible contract. This is indisputable.

Acquiring his contract in the first place is quite questionable. But compounding that mistake by trading for an even worse contract is indefensible.

And 1st round picks at the end of the first round might as well by 20th round picks in the NBA. They have little value and everyone knows this. Hell, teams SELL those picks for cash every single year.

This team should have:

Amnestied David Lee.
Should have traded Ellis for picks.
Held on to Curry (because he's on his rookie deal).
Waited out Andris Biedrins (because they'd have no choice).

Then let Curry, Klay, and Udoh play on a 15 win Warrior team next season. Just completely and utterly tank. Then trade Curry next year at the deadline for more picks.

Clear the entire roster, amass picks, and start over with a real general manager.

Instead, we get two injury prone players and a flawed Roster with zero flexibility. We few assets that would fetch anything positive in a return in a trade.

Wake me up in 2015 guys.

Worst move the Warriors have made since the Maggette signing.

Wow these are great ideas. Too bad you didnt put all these out at the beginning of the year. However, you flip flop so much that it was hard to remember what you actually did say.

See you in 2015.

LOL Hardly
It looks like JJ HIckson is coming on board the tank. Can we kick the tires on Terrance Williams? He's a big athletic 3 who can definitely play center.
I cant speak for crzy, but I was one of the people that has been advocating blowing it up since day 1. I said to amnesty David Lee. I said to trade Monta if you got good young players or high picks. I said try and trade Curry + Andris as a package, and see if anyone would bite (apparently we could have had Rajon Rondo for this package, but management said no).

Im sorry Ninerjohn, I couldnt disagree with you more. This ownership group that promised change, has done nothing but make horrible decisions since it got here. Lacob deserved every boo he got.....just wish it wasnt during the time he got them.

Shrug. I don't consider flip-flopping to be an insult.

I am objective about changing my opinion about all matters...in sports and in life.

I used to be against gay marriage...now I'm not.

Lacob totally brought that on himself. He should have taken cues from David Stern and ignored the boos and started talking.
He was about to start crying. What a lil b***h.

You gotta talk through the boos and over them, otherwise they gain more steam.

Plus the fact that he said "and now that that's over with" merely made the boos get stronger.

Don't acknowledge the boos either. Jeez.

It's like he's a beginner at public speaking.
