A salary cap, rookie cap scale, maximum contract cap, and even the draft violate anti-trust law.

My understanding was that the NBA's antitrust exemption protects both the players and the league from what would be otherwise considered anti-competitive (and thus in violation of the anti-trust s**t)...so, as long as there is a CBA, the league and players remain protected...now of course, once the players decertify the union and thus the CBA, that anti-trust exemption disappears.

So strictly from the way I am currently looking at this and all the reading Ive been doing in regards to the topic, my take on the players' strategy is to decertify their union and CBA, expecting that the league will fear losing its anti-trust exemption protection and that it will be forced to litigate a very long and expensive anti-trust case...and then when faced with this possibility the players hope that the league will relent and negotiate a much more favorable CBA for the mere millionaire players (versus the multi-millionaire superstars and owners).

Of course I say the "mere millionaire" players because the league and the higher paid players benefit from the fiction that the leagues are games (not businesses) if Im not mistaken, but greed looms because the highest paid players want more cash money thus leaving less for the regular/average players thus giving those regular/average (and majority) players incentive to decertify the union

You're correct that it doesn't violate anti-trust laws because there's a player's union. I was just saying that if the players decertify, it would.

I think the "average player" that you reference is who the owners are going to try to appeal to. If they can make a CBA appealing to that middle tier of NBA salaries, they can probably hold down the costs of the superstars. To be honest, I feel like they already have. The top guys would be making WAY more than they do now if it was an open market.

But if they can come up with a deal that looks good to the middle 200 players in the league, they may be able to get enough votes to pass something that gives other concessions to the owners.

The NBA is implementing a new dress code this season -- but instead of being directed at players, it's the coaches the league is insisting dress up. No longer will coaches be allowed to wear mock turtlenecks under their suit jacket. Instead, a collared shirt is now required apparel.

And at the behest of one of the league's most casual coaches, let the new mandate be known as the "Van Gundy Rule."

"I want them to at least name the rule after me," Orlando Magic coach Van Gundy said. "Somebody has their Bird rights. Larry Bird got that rule named after him. I want it to be the Van Gundy Rule."

That certainly works, but it could have just as easily been known as the "Don Nelson Rule," had the league's all-time leader in mock turtlenecks and wins not just been pushed out by Golden State's new regime. But at least one member of the coaching fraternity isn't convinced there's a need for the rule in the first place.

"I don't like that," Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "I really like Stan's style. I thought Stan really set the bar for the dress code. I think he should stay with that. I think it's nice."

In any event, Van Gundy's wardrobe should be well-equipped to handle the call for additional formality. Shortly after Van Gundy signed his extension this summer, Magic CEO Bob Vander Weide sprung for a tailor to outfit the coach and some front-office members with new suits.

Sounds like one of those preseason puff-pieces

Like "Anthony Randolph has grown two feet and gained 30 pounds of muscle, he's now 7-10 and stronger than Dwight Howard"

Every single team puts out puff-pieces and nonsense like that.

"Eddy Curry lost 30 lbs, he's in the best shape of his life"

....etc....
Byron Scott, modeling the worst tie ever...

Kobe was asked who would win if it was him vs Lebron, 1 on 1:

So keep it strictly on the scenario of if it were just those 2 on a court, 1 on 1. What say you?
