Chelsea make Torres Bid

BS

Torres and Gerrard aren't leaving Liverpool

I can see Torres leaving, especially with the comments he made during the season about the lack of talent on the team. Gerrard won't leave unless they get relegated though.

Cesc wants out of Arsenal

Meh, based on the same article that was pure speculation anyway.

Maybe Im in denial because if Cesc left I would be broken hearted but Im not buying this.

Same, I don't buy it. I think he wants to stay and win here, then move to Barca later on as Henry did.

I agree ... he will go when Xavi starts to decline ... there is no room for Cesc in that lineup right now.

All the comments Torres has made have been that he wants to stay. He's a loyal dude.

And besides, Liverpool would be insane to give him away for any amount of money.

Whats more insane is that they would give him to a rival team in the Premiership. Unless there is a substantial difference between what teams like Madrid or Barcelona would offer compared to Chelsea, it would be dumb giving him to Chelsea.

If Chelsea bid high enough they will get him imo. Liverpool need 5-6 new players this year and the funds aren't currently there. I can see them selling him in the swap deal discussed in which they would get 3 players plus 40M for him. That's a pretty good deal for Liverpool, they need more than just Torres and with 40M they could do some damage in the transfer market.

I agree that he's happy at Liverpool but if Chelsea offer 200,000 a week, that's pretty hard to refuse.

It worked for Inter.

Sold off their best player and retooed for a more balanced squad ... it sucks to see a guy like that leave but sometimes the team as whole is better off.

3 players and 40M would probably be substantially more than what Madrid or Barcelona would offer. Basically if they get an offer they cant refuse, then obviously do it.

Check out the story, unless I misread it's 40M and Liverpool get to choose 3 players from this list : Jose Bosingwa, Nicolas Anelka, Ricardo Carvalho, Deco, Salomon Kalou and Paulo Ferreira.

I'd do it if I were Liverpool.

1. I don't think torres is irreplaceable as a striker, he's good no doubt, but he doesn't exactly always work hard for his goals.

2. They need help everywhere and if they can improve at several positions, it is better for them overall. Even if it costs them a star.

Liverpool would be stupid to give up Torres. Stupid cheap ownership of Tom Hicks.

Well then they should simply pay to fix their holes instead of giving up one of their best players. There is no salary cap.

They can't "simply" pay the players because they aren't making as much money. That's why getting 3 players and 40M is so appealing, that could turn into 5-7 players and Liverpool desperately need that.

There are only a few teams that can pay whatever they want, and one of them is trying to buy him.

According to Forbes, Liverpool is worth more than Chelsea. If they had a competent owner instead of Hicks, then they would be selling off their best players.

The difference is that Ibramovic is personally funding his dream team and Liverpool don't have a Sugar Daddy backing them. They might be worth more but they don't have as much money at their disposal as Chelsea do, to my knowledge.

Regardless, If you can get 3 players valued at 15-18M plus 40M that's too good of a deal to turn down. Anelka and Kalou can be part of the deal so you already get top-class replacements.

I don't understand the deal from Chelsea's perspective though, aren't Torres and Drogba very similar players? It doesn't make sense to give up so much and pay him so much unless Drogba is on the way out or they change styles.
