BINGO

So let me get this straight? This s**t makes you yell "racism" out loud but when I posted that story about the Compton Cookout party at UCSD y'all laughed it off and joked endlessly about it?

I guess different forums bring different attitudes from you people.

But it definitely IS ignorance. A lot of it starts with the use of the word "American" in this country. "We are Americans" motherf**kers I'm Venezuelan and I'm American too.
America is the name of the whole continent, from Chile all the way up to Canada, it's ONE continent, I don't give a flying damn that some retarded Geography is taught around here, South America and North America ARE NOT different continents, they are simply separated for geographical discussion purposes, and it's actually broken into South (from Chile to Venezuela) Central (from Panama to Guatemala and the countries in the Caribbean) and North (Mexico to Canada, including Greenland, which although officially part of America - notice I'm referring to the continent here, not to the U.S. - is a self-governing providence of Denmark).

I don't know at what point in history, the citizens of the United States of America decided they were the real "Americans". So now here comes Torrii Hunter, and like him millions of others in this country, talking about "oh that Black guy from Puerto Rico isn't an African American like me" Motherf**ker yes he is, he's black just like you are, which means both of you mofos are descendants of African people (you know, Africa, that one continent on the other side of the Atlantic, underneath Europe? - and no I'm not saying Europeans are 'superior' than Africans ).

But even worse, his whole gripe is stupid. Is he saying in order for black people to be represented in baseball they have to be black people born in the United States? Nevermind black Puerto Rican, Dominican, and Venezuelan players in MLB, but if (god forbid) a black Frenchman was really good at baseball and ended up playing here, would he also not be considered black? even if his skin was blacker than Hunter's himself? (who isn't the darkest mofo in the Majors, btw) or what if it was a brother straight from Nigeria? Knocking balls out of the park at a rate that would make Bonds look like a little leaguer? Would he not be black also because he isn't "African-American"?

"American" concepts really need to be reevaluated.

Well, if South and North America are the same continent, then so is Europe, Asia and Africa since all 3 of those countries are connected.

I don't quite know why you're so angry because ignorant, uneducated people make ignorant uneducated statements. I can't really tell what exactly you are angry about honestly, just that you're freaking pissed off about something. Are you mad because people didn't take your thread seriously? Are you mad because you think Americans act like they're the greatest? Are you mad because people are ignorant?

I think it's rather presumptive to take a few statements made by ignorant people and say that this is true for Americans as a whole and we need to "change our ways." You're making waaaaay too big a deal out of this man.

And I didn't get the impression that everyone in this thread was calling him racist either besides the OP.

Eh I didn't so much mean racist as in KKK type of racist more like as in discriminatory against black latinos(which is what they were called in the ESPN article), but it's easier to type racist... Basically the point is culturally they're not really the same and he's mad that more foreigners are in the MLB than black USA citizens(is that the correct term now???) I guess.

And the reason why they are separate continents is based on their history of being a separate continent.

"South America broke off from the west of the supercontinent Gondwanaland around 135 million years ago (Ma), forming its own continent.[4] Starting around 15 Ma, the collision of the Caribbean Plate and the Pacific Plate resulted in the emergence of a series of volcanoes along the border that created a number of islands. The gaps in the archipelago of Central America filled in with material eroded off North America and South America, plus new land created by continued volcanism. By 3 Ma, the continents of North America and South America were linked by the Isthmus of Panama, thereby forming the single landmass of the Americas.[5]"

So it is a single landmass, but not a single continent

In the US, we are taught that there are 7 continents, while in Latin America they are taught that there are 6 continents with North and South America being combined as one.

As for the rest of his post

Tori Black

It sucks when you're at work and you see a picture of a half naked chick in a thread that has no business having half naked chicks in it.

Tori Black is f**kin' hot though.

(1)Well, if South and North America are the same continent, then so is Europe, Asia and Africa since all 3 of those countries are connected.

(1) hopefully, you're being sarcastic

(2) if I'm angry, it'll because of the constant ignorance that I'm presented with almost every day. I think it's a shame Hunter came out and said something like this because it reflects how role models such as today's athletes can be "uneducated" as you like to call them.

and to SunDevil, America is ONE continent, your quote is great at explaining why America is shaped the way it is, but that doesn't mean America is divided into two separate continents. Have you ever seen the Olympics flag:

Wondering why it has 5 rings on it? They represent each continent: America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. The only other continent is Antartica, which isn't really a continent IMO, but that's a different discussion.

And as to citizens of the U.S. being called "Americans", is not the use of the word that upsets me but rather they way in which is used, and the ideologies it has led to.

And believe me, I wish that when people called themselves American they were referring to the fact that they are citizens of the United States, but unfortunately they carry the meaning of the word further than that. I have met over 20 people with this mindset. So if you thought that was pretty obvious to everyone, .....

So why are there 5 continents?

In Russia they teach Europe and Asia are one continent, Eurasia.

And the Olympic model is based on what is taught in Europe, which is America is one continent.

The correct model is based on Continental Plates. Scientifically, N. America and S. America ARE SEPARATED.

This model holds up based on the history of continental drift, and is not based on cultural definitions. (Hey Philippines is its own continent, lol).

Horrible choice of words... He has somewhat of a point about MLB. MLB used to put resources into the inner city to recruit kids. These kids usually choose basketball or football over baseball. By recruiting these kids, it improves their lives and the game of baseball because these are some damn good athletes. Nowadays, MLB has shifted most of these resources to the Dominican and other Hispanic countries. And when some watch a baseball game they assume these guys are African Americans... but, Hunter obviously phrased his answer like a dummy.

WHAT A DUMB ARSE THING TO SAY OR THINK.

Damnit Tori....your career is almost over and you were loved by so many...mainly for not saying stupid things....now people will always remember this.

He should go to a couple of Latin countries and see kids that look "like" him or heck who look up to him and see how hard they are trying to make it out of their tough situations, be it baseball or whatever.

record it, donate time...and help out in said countries...and show he is honestly sorry and has learned a valuable lesson.
