As if that will never happen in the NBA?
I don't get it.

LOL @ all the people perplexed by why Nike confiscated the video. It was a brilliant business decision. By confiscating the video we are STILL talking about this. If it went straight to youtube it would have fizzled in a few days. But this way they kept their names in the news for WAY longer than they should have. Pretty smart actually.

I understand that, but it's bad publicity, IMO. It makes them look stupid and childish. I understand the marketing concept behind it, but unlike Jerry Jones, I do believe that there is good publicity, and bad publicity.

Well, they need publicity. They pay millions of dollars in ads, so this is free publicity. I just think it was stupid, and shows them in poor light. I don't think Lebron or Nike gained anything from it, except negative feedback.

Well I'd imagine at first they were planning some kind of TV ad featuring the clip or possibly using it for some viral marketing campaign. But since there is more footage they are probably just happy to keep hearing their name in print and having the internet and blog world light up about it. No such thing as bad publicity.

Very true, its free publicity bc Lebron and Nike name gets thrown around for free by the media.
its quite possible they could make a future skit about the whole thing, and this promoted it

What's the big ass deal about this dunk??? it was a simple dunk and LJ like came from a side a bit. it wasn't like it was a facial that LB was trying to contest. I just don't see why Lebron and Nike is making it such a big deal about!!!
I swear next season i hope Kobe gives one to him in his grill!!!!!!!

Of course there's such a thing as bad publicity. Kobe got plenty of publicity for the rape trial, and it killed him in endorsements. Of course this isn't in the same league as that, but it's not good when your client looks like a huge beotch. Between getting knocked out of the playoffs by Orlando, not shaking hands afterward, wearing shirts that proclaim how amazing he is, and this dunk situaion, "The King's image has taken a hit this summer.

The whole "any publicity is good publicity" cliche is, well, not true. That's why Phelps, Kobe, etc lost endorsements after their little endeavors. Nike's actions basically made their #2 guy (behind Tiger) look like a immature crybaby. And that, somehow, is supposed to improve their sales? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Look, if it had been some small company that did this, then yes, it might be good for them, because people who wouldn't have otherwise heard of them would know their name. But everyone knows Nike. They're the gold standard - the titan - of sports marketing. Contrary to the adage, any bad publicity for Nike is indeed bad publicity.

But you already hate LeBron and look for any opportunity to ding him. I doubt he lost any fans or potential fans over this. Just haters hating. That's how you know you are the best.
