The OFFICIAL 2011 Chicago Cubs Season Thread

We begin our 2009 chapter of the 101 year quest for a championship.

We didn't have the best offseason, and we didn't land Peavy, but I have a feeling he is coming.

Go, Cubs, Go

The season starts at 8 tonight (7 Eastern Time)

I know there are some Cub fans on the board so let's discuss

Their rotation seems pretty solid and their lineup (if healthy) can do a lot of things. I will hold judgement until I go to the game next friday against the Cardinals but they do look good and they seem focused this season. Who knows... they always end up choking in the playoffs but for some reason I think this year will be different but that is very cliche for anyone to say about the Cubs..
Good luck on the season.

101 years...incredible. That's quite an achievement by itself.

They've been doing a great job at it.

Haha, you have a good point.
Great game by the Z-pack.

The bullpen looked pretty solid. Gregg had a little more trouble than I would like but he got the save and that is what is important.

I think we have possibly the best rotation in baseball. Our 1-4 guys can hang with anyone and if Sean Marshall can control his curve he can be a nasty pitcher.

Soriano had a good start and he is a key to our sucess. I love Milton's aggressive approach to strikes and his patience to not chase bad pitches.

The only weak link I see is Fukudome... I know he is a lefty, but honestly his defense in Center isn't very good (although he is learning the position) and he seems to pull off of pitches and slap them instead of staying on them and driving them. I don't think Lou will have a lot of patience with him if he isn't hitting. I really thought Reed Johnson would win the everyday job, but I guess they have too much money tied up in Fukudome.

Looking forward to seeing what Miles can do against Lefties and how his defense holds up if he is asked to play several different positions.

Hoffpaur is a stud, too bad there really isn't a place for him everyday.
