I refuse to listen to audio on my computer (too many ads and BS videos) any one have a written version?
We could be transitioning to a 4/3 but for now we stay a 3/4 d but already use a lot of 4/3! Strongside would be brooks mlb willis weakside bowman! At end justin, aldon, middle of line ray mac and dorsey! We locked up bowman which was great, esp for price which goldson wasnt worth the cash! Our secondary is fine with out em as long as we keep our pass rush fresh. Said seattle has the better chance then we do of division and percy key to this. Compared goldsons worth to avrils worth of a franchise tag n said not worth cash which seattle did good by getting cheap! Said if we where to land namdi would be better then brown only for a cheap price not what he wants to be paid. Broke it down kinda quick for ya
Agree wit us staying in a base 3/4 we have the players still for it. Also agree with our pass rush could hide a flaw in secondary. A lack of goldson. Also agree on delmas situation and injurie concerns! Disagree seattle is better then us at this point. On that note talk is cheap action speaks louder then words, we will see that unfold one way or other at next seasons end! Tho seattle is a good team n no disrespect! If we can land a good one (fs) in draft id be stoked, but wouldnt mind a vet to help that rook along the way neither, giving not just here for a check

We are not going to a 4/3. The players we have now that are backups are the future of the team. Why don't people get that. Scouting department-scouts, then you draft the players, coaches- coach etc etc.

Dobbs, Ian Williams, Jerod-Eddie, Tukuafu, Divens
Haralson, Stupar, Skuta, Wilhoite, Cam Johnson, Fleming

Those are the backups, I doubt many are part of the future

Niners lost both NT's, and the replacement so far (Dorsey) is not a 3-4 nose
and were not going to start a rookie

So the idea that we may evolve into a 4-3 has some merit

4-3??? we have the best MLB in the NFL, what we gonna do with those 2?? i know Bowman played OLB in college but still.. it s easier just to draft good NT and play hybrid defense until he is ready... things have been working well so far , we just need to fix things here and there ( DL, secondary)

On passing downs, we already are a 4/3 team. Last year, our D was in a 4 man front on 70% of the plays.

From the personnel standpoint, it's not a 4-3. It is a 2-4-5. 2 DL, 4 LBS and 3 CBs and 2 Safeties. Sometimes, teams like to go 4 Wide so Fangio would switch it to more secondary which is 2-3-6.

The 49ers' defensive scheme

Posted on March 14, 2013 by Grant Cohn

On Wednesday, ESPN.com's Mike Sando wrote a blog theorizing the 49ers could switch from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3 defense at some point in the distant future. With all due respect to Sando, the 49ers' defense already is a 4-3 defense. They just use 3-4 personnel.

First of all, the 49ers use a classic four-man defensive line more than 65 percent of the time, in their sub packages. On base downs, the 49ers use a nose tackle, but that does not mean they use a 3-4. In a 3-4, the nose tackle lines up directly over the center in a zero-technique position, and the ends line up on the outside shoulder of the offensive tackles in a five-technique position – creating three "bubbles" at the line of scrimmage. The 49ers don't do this.

The 49ers base defense is a 4-3 Under, a variation of a four-man line. The defensive ends are not five-techniques. The ends are reduced, or "eagled down," over the outside eye of the guards to three-techniques, and the outside linebacker – Aldon Smith – essentially is a stand-up defensive end.

The nose tackle is a one gap player. He lines up between the center and guard in one-technique position. The strong safety usually plays the eighth-man-in-the-box concept, even from depth, just so nobody along the front has to be a two-gap defender.

Glenn Dorsey, the 49ers' newest defensive tackle, played five-technique for the Chiefs and was not successful, but the 49ers will not ask him to play five-technique. They're going to ask him to play three-technique or one-technique, classic 4-3 positions, the positions he played in college.

@grantcohn: Here's a good view of the #49ers 4-3 Under base defense http://oi49.tinypic.com/lll00.jpg Notice Ahmad Brooks is the Leo and Aldon Smith is the Sam

‏@grantcohn: The technical term for the #49ers base defense is a 4-3 Under. Here's what that is: http://bit.ly/WyIGSj
Of course a Cohn would try to spin things!

Is that not just our base 3-4? I see Aldon-OLB, Justin-DE, Soap-NT, Ray-DE, Brooks-OLB.

Im guessing our 4-3 would look more like. Aldon-DE, Justin-DT, Dorsey-DT, Ray-DE, Books-Will, Pwilly-Mike, Bow Sam.

Im not well versed in the 4-3 backer positions so they players may need switching around but I think im on the right track.
