Teams generally don't franchise back ups. It is a really good way of throwing money away and screwing up your salary cap position.

I assume your referring to Walker. You can say he's a key ingredient in this offense, but I agree he's status is that of a backup.

Yep. I know some folks like him, and he does do some good work. But franchising!

Nobody but it sucks that Goldson is probably gone. Our secondary will suffer, but at least if we sign a number one cb it will soften the blow and we may even imorove in our secondary. If Goldson will cost about 8 mil, maybe we could sign Woodson or reed to about a 5 mil a year and use the other 3-4 mil we would of spent on Goldson to put towards a solid cb.

Its Goldson or no one. Soap and Walker arent even close to deserving tag money. The 49ers probably realize that Goldson's market value is inflated, and hed be more easily replaced than people think. Hes always been overrated imo, so giving him a huge deal isnt wise. He can either come back for what Baalke thinks hes worth, or let some other team overpay.

Would love to keep Goldson, but we would do just as well signing a Delmas while grooming a draft pick.

Doubt anyone is tagged, not enough cap room. If Maiocco is right, and we are 1.1 million under, we are way away from Walker or Goldson, and especially Sopoaga and RJF. Doubt anyone gets tagged.
