aldon smith overrated?

He has had some dominant games, but he burned out towards the latter part of the year. Same time cowboy tore his triceps. Is aldon smith gonna be worth a huge contract? Is he that special, or is he the beneficiary of playing on a great defense?

is this some kind of a joke, Aldon Smith is one of the best defensive players in the NFL already, yeah he needs work in coverage, last year was his first full year doing coverage concepts!
he is still a guy that needs to be schemed against and be double teamed. I mean come on, we have all seen Aldon Smith just bull rush tackles straight off their feet. He does need to get in better shape and needs more rest which means we really need another OLB to spell Aldon and keep him fresh for playoffs. I dont think he will be extremely hard to resign but it will get done.
Most sacks in his first two seasons in NFL history.

Yeah...overrated....

I think we need another guy who can rush from the opposite side. Get pressure from all directions. Bow and Pat can take care of the middle if they have to but if a QB scrambles outta he pocket, we need some containment

As a pass rusing specialist, no he is not overrated. As a three down defender, yes he is overrated. So far.
He evaporated the last 6 weeks of the season (including playoffs). Not a good sign.

If he was injured that badly, he should have sat down.

I'd rather have a healthy RJF.

What is his rating and how has he not lived up to it?

If he was injured that badly but still better than his replacement why sit him? I think he was still the best option.

He was doubled and OLines started sliding thier protection towards him. Either a back or combo with G and T and would also slide the C to Aldon's side to prevent the inside loop stunt that him and Cowboy used.
aldon will kill you in your sleep for that!!!
YES.

Well, I don't think that he was better injured than rjf would have been. He really didn't play very well against run or pass in the last few games of the season. I think he had more spirit in the playoffs. But still, did not want to make a tackle. Just didn't. Too hurt. Why put a player like that out there with 330 pounders leaning on the bum pipe every play?

It's against the run that you have to judge him if you are talking about a great defensive player. Partly, anyway. When it came time to come up with the clutch play, I think Bowman, Ahmad came through a lot more often, IMO.

No. He was suffering from fatigue like the rest of our team. I watched some games from the beginning of the season and he moved like a completely different player. I mean does it matter if his sacks were inflated. He had 19.5. Connor Barwin has a great dline and he didn't get 20 sacks. JJ Watt did though. Does that mean Watt benefited from a strong defense and he's not going to be worth his big contract? Simply no. You have to work hard for sacks especially for 19 of them.

There are very few players I have EVER seen do this, and never as much as Aldon has. Not even Reggie White was able to pancake tackles as often as Aldon. White would bull rush effortlessly of course; but a pure pancake landing on their back? Aldon does it more than anybody I have ever seen.

Lol. I hope the players don't actually read these boards.
To say that Aldon Smith did what he did SIMPLY because he has Justin Smith is like saying we can put any OLB back there and they would put up almost record breaking sack numbers.
this thread is disrespectful to one of the hardest working LBs in the nfl.

Second year and almost broke records.

Sure he has party issues , but marriage will fix that.

Lock this. I cringe at the thought of Aldon actually reading this thread thinking that all niner fans are blind.

8 yards and missed calls away from a title.
Young pup, has proved himself in two seasons. The guy is ahead of the curve.
