One could argue that he is the 4th best LB on the team. And his sack totals are majorly inflated playing next to justin smith. Aldon isnt very good in coverage. He has had some dominant games, but he burned out towards the latter part of the year. Same time cowboy tore his triceps. Is aldon smith gonna be worth a huge contract? Is he that special, or is he the beneficiary of playing on a great defense?

aldon Smith gets doubled teamed when JSmith was hurt.
We need another great DL opposite to JSmith

Yes. He is a legit pro bowler, but I think his numbers were inflated for him to be spoken of in the same breath as HOF players this early.
He can get double digit sacks with out Justin around, not 20 though IMO

you guys forget he was hurt too. He's going to be a all pro every or every other year.

I believe the added workload in his second year wore him down at the end of the season. Of course the injury to Justin Smith affected him and he was nicked up too. He's only going to get better.

he is not over rated but i it worries me that he is that dependent on justin smith to be effective. i hear he is going to get in better shape because being tired at the end of the year is a very very poor excuse for his lack of production when the team really needed it. people keep saying "if justin is around he gets double digit sacks". i would like to think he can do some good things on his own. of course the entire key is for the team to spend the first two picks on justins replacement and a defensive end pass rusher

Justin Smitha and Aldon Smith were both hurt at the end. It made our pass rush useless. We need more D Line guys and more pass rushers. The great teams have 2 pass rushers or more. We have just one. And when Justin got hurt Aldon got the double team and he was also slightly hurt. He is pretty good. But he's better for sure with Justin.

I am a little tired of hearing how Aldon's #'s are inflated by Justin Smith. Give me a break. Maybe if he was getting 8.5-10.5 sacks you could argue that he is the product of another player or scheme, but when you are getting 14 and 19.5 in your first 2 years, that argument holds no weight to me. I am sure he benefits from Justin Smith, as would anyone, but I also think injury coupled with being double/triple teamed also played a huge part.

Is this thread serious? Aldon's issues at the end of the season were more reflective of the team's lack of depth at OLB than anything else.

When J Smith went down he was getting double and triple teamed consistently. Like people have said above we need to find a few replacements on the d line who can collapse the pocket and make Aldon's job easier.

I think he's a 12 sack guy without Justin... with Justin he pushes 20.
