Looks like you're looking for a pretty big revamp of the secondary. Can't say I blame you, they were pretty awful. I would hold on to Goldson if possible. We could do a lot worse than him at FS, possibly convert to SS if Whitner is deemed too big a liability in coverage by the coaching staff. I like Brown too. He looked like our best corner for much of the year. Culliver confuses me. I was really high on him , but his performance in the SB will linger with me for a while.

We definitely need another capable body at DE and OLB. Our starters simply ran out of gas at the end of the year. A big, powerful NT who can plug the gaps and collapse the pocket would be great, but not entirely necessary. Sopoaga has done a fine job, but if he's not re-signed we should look at grabbing a potential high-impact NT in rounds 1 or 2 of the draft.

Assuming Alex is gone, we need a backup QB. I'm not comfortable with Tolzien being handed the backup gig without legit competition. I'd also like to get a CK-lite so we don't have to radically change the offense in the event of an injury.....Josh Johnson?...lol

WR unit is a big question mark outside of Crabtree. Moss is probably gone. Manningham and Williams are good players but coming off serious injuries. Who knows if Jenkins amounts to anything. No doubt Fleener would have been a far more useful player this year over Jenkins. We need a big, tall receiving threat to help us out in the RZ.

Same here. I just rewatched the end of third quarter and Torrey Smith beat Cully badly on a double move that should've been pass interference. Cully was so bad it's ridiculous.

Almost all secondaries will look ordinary without consistent pressure on the QB. So you can
all pile on about Culliver, Whitner and Goldson in the SuperBowl. But where were you earlier in the season?
Nowhere because Aldon and Justin were getting home.

I'm from buffalo and trust me whitner has ALWAYS been a liability in coverage. That's why the bills let him walk

Those gay bashing comments must have effected him. Never seen him play so bad. Just looked like he was lost out there.

He had a lot of swagger all season lost. It didn't show up on Sunday. He was timid and confused all game long. Its like our CBs were just trying to keep everything in front of them and weren't being aggressive at all.

Can't be afraid to get burned.

Big tall fast corner to match up with the bigger WR and a big passing catching TE.
A cornerback is needed. I also would look into adding another pass rusher.

Another wide out wouldn't hurt either.

Great in run defense but an absolute nightmare in coverage. How does a one person route (Pita) get open with 5 defensive backs in the endzone? Answer: have the guy go into Whitner's zone.

Two things fans been asking for 2 years now.

We need to fix the pass rush, whether it be at the Dline or OLB. Our secondary will start looking good again once we can get consistent pressure on the QB... good pressure as in hits and sacks. We should probably look in to upgrading our kicker as well.

Oh,I'm sure Akers will be cut very soon. Wouldn't shock me if he's cut by next week.
Avoidable Distractions
Aldon Smith--two years of immature behavior
Culliver--silly homophobic comments distract from business
Moss--dumb declaration he is the best
Kaepernick--worried about trademarking his bicep kiss
Crabtree--putting himself in a position to be accused (perhaps not his fault but still a distraction.
Goldson--penalties and missed tackles (offset by killer hits, but...at what cost?)

Key injuries
J Smith--still played better than most with one arm--greatly reduced Aldon's effectiveness
Hunter--key RB for most of the season and a real jack of all trades
Manningham--needed to keep the pressure off Crabtree
Williams--key back up for Manningham
Dobbs--key back up for J Smith

Given these factors, I would like to draft a pass rusher, improve backups for WR and DL, then look for DBs to strengthen the backfield and replace any lost FAs. It is also necessary to bring in mature FAs who can help limit the dumb distractions.

So first four picks should be:

OLB pass rush specialist
WR to pair with Crabtree
DL to groom for J Smith's spot and be a backup.
DB--probably a CB (they have some young S already)

Exactly. And he's partially responsible for the Jacoby Jones TD too.

It's not even relegation. It's for his own good. Hes a pure pass rusher. Parys is a 2 down run stuffing pass covering LB who could switch out effectively with Aldon.
Hey Aldon you nearly had a 20 sack season, but take a demotion. I'm sure Fangio would love to explain that to him just to play an inferior player.

Aldon has not reached his ceiling as a three down LB. There is no way he's returning to be a situational pass rusher especially with how much offenses are throwing the ball now.

Your probably right but he's going to have to put in the effort to develop his game. He gets pushed off the run to easily. My point was he doesn't need to be on the field for 3 downs.
