We all love J Smith, but every player retires at some point. Hopefully if he does stay, another season or two is enough time to groom another J Smith, maybe in next season's draft.

Even still Im predicting we knab a few D Linemen in the draft... hopefully a big WR with a T.O. fitzgerald build and go from there really but we need to deff get some D that Cowboy can mentor inmagine a whole line that plays like he does now lol

I have been wondering about this. He made a comment, I believe after the Green Bay game, where he mentioned being 'near the end of a career' . I don't recall what exactly he said. I figured he meant only a year or two left, but if we win I can see it being this year.

Not even worried. This is just being brought up to get people squawking.
Justin's likely going to be extended for 3 years and will play out two of those years. Don't worry till there's something to worry about.

Standard media procedure to stir s**t up...they did the same with Young and Rice in our last Super Bowl, yet they both played 5-6 more years with the Niners

I doubt he retires. I'm sure the injury is making him think about it.... but I would think he should be good for another year or two.
I'd be shocked if we don't draft a replacement this year. DL is a tough position to learn in the NFL. So it would be good to have cowboy stick around for at least another year while the rookie catches on.
I'd like to see us use our 1st rounder on a 3-4 DE.

This year, he also experienced his first real injury. He might think his body is giving up on him (getting old). That said, I think he will get the surgery and miss the boys and the iron, and he'll hit it like a madman as soon as the doctors get out of his way. He will be a monster next year, while the new guy (1st rounder or Hunt in the 2nd) gets his legs under him.

I hope he gets just starts on PUP and starts later in the season so he can be fresh throughout.

I think it will depend on what kind of surgery that elbow is gonna need.
Should have drafted Wolfe.
