Defensive plan for Falcons game

It is not secret that we struggle against quick slot receivers and big TEs past few years although we have Willis and Carlos
Good thing is Harry Douglas is not used often as Falcons usually got with 2wr, 1Te, FB RB formation when they are not in shotgun formation with Jaquizz
I was thinking we can counter with Carlos against Gonzalez (like c Woodson covering Vernon) and then using culliver on outside against the physical Julio
When they take out their FB and put in slot WR we can peel off Carlos and put him on wr.
This is very key as we struggle against quick receiving RB like Jacquizz (remember Sproles last year) and sparing Willis from running after all game against Gonzalez will keep him fresh chasing their RB

The Niners will use the same defense they used against the Packers and NE. Maybe a lot of nickel. McDonald in the middle. Soap gets about 10 plays. Willis sits out a few plays when the Niners go to dime. Willis and Bowman blitz up the middle. Justin shifts sometimes just before the snap. Goldson disguises his coverage, sometimes cutting off receivers going through the middle.

who's assigned gonzalez? i'd rather he take an early hit like jimmy graham did last year (whitner?) that phases him...

This. I think this game could be very similar to the New England game. With Cowboy playing a full 4 quarters this game could end up being what that game didn't. Ugly.

Jaws said that we have to contain their screen game and watch for shot plays. I hope we do. I don't want them getting any cheap yards or points

The Niners have shown that they can limit strong passing teams with their standard 4 man rush and 2 deep coverage. They try to limit big plays and let teams complete shorter routes with the safeties coming up to inflict damage. Don't see that changing this weekend.....

Stop the run. Make atl one dimensional. Get sacks. Dont get beat deep.

And Witner lights up anyone coming over the middle....love it!

Pressure Ryan up the middle. Some timely Willis blitzes worked beautifully last week against GB. Assign Willis and Bowman to alternate covering Gonzalez, bump him at the line of scrimmage. Safety play is critical to help out the DBs.

With all those weapons, the falcons are bound to get some huge plays in here and there. Just gotta limit them. Bend but don't break.
