Yes, well, I'm sure while that argument might be convincing to someone who didn't watch the game, I happened to watch the game and I saw the defense have a let down early allowing 2 tds on the Rams opening 2 drives. Alex then figured out the Rams defense and scored a TD easily before leaving the game with a concussion. Our defense held the Rams to 10 pts the rest of the way. Should have been an easy win after the bad start, but Kap came in and played miserably for a quarter before leading one ok TD drive.

We're likely about to lose our division and fall all the way to the sixth seed from the second seed. We're probably looking at a first round playoff exit. This season has clearly fallen apart. And it's because Kaep couldn't finish the job against the Rams at Candlestick and threw away a game we had in hand in St. Louis. And yet here we are, talking about the amazing deep TDs he almost threw while we slowly descend back into our losing ways from the last decade.

We're "likely"? Nothing that you said has happened yet, so why should we pretend it did and react accordingly? And Kaep "couldn't finish the job" against the Rams? He came in down 14-7. He brought the Niners back and took the lead, after which the defense gave up a TD to the Rams which gave them the lead. Kaep drove the team back down the field for a tying field goal. In OT he drove the team to the Rams 23 yardline and put Akers in a position to win the game with a gimme 41-yard field goal. You know, the kind of field goal that Alex benefited from last year, and which you include in your list of "great" comebacks by Alex. Akers missed that field goal. That game is hardly Kaep's fault.

Well keep in mind, that there are double standards when it comes to AS. Anyhow, good post.

Ok, we'll just see how it plays out then. I'm predicting the Niners will beat the Patriots on Sunday.

How do I make things sound like constructive criticism if they aren't in fact constructive criticism? What facts have I stated that aren't facts? Pissing people off isn't my intent, but I can see why it would be a byproduct of pointing out the flaws in our team. I try to cushion things as much as possible, but sometimes the truth is hard to handle. I understand that though and will continue to make an effort to be supportive without condescension or malice while voicing my concerns. And I would certainly do my best to adjust my posting style if the Mods thought it was a problem, but I've received no warnings either verbally or through the system since I've started posting. My only timeouts have come when I've let my gametime emotions get the best of me during the gameday threads.

Oh ok, so 14 pts is a "letting down" AS, but 10 pts, is "holding it down" for Kap? Ok.......... So it is true. There are double standards for the two QB's.

How is that a double standard? The defense allowed 14 pts in one quarter when Alex was in the game and then only 10 in the other 4. Do you not see how those are a lot different?

Really 4 pts? We'll were is the unwritten cutoff number for "holding it down" and "letting down"? Is it 12? Honestly man, you are reaching to save face. The two numbers are way too close for you to try and make some sort of huge gap between the numbers 10 and 14.

It's not about the gap in points as much as it is about the rate of giving them up. Giving up 10 pts in 4 quarters would be considered a pretty good job for any defense. Giving up 14 in 1 quarter would not be.

In your post you call Kap a "big flaw", while kaps stats in each of the categories I've provided would characterize him more along the lines of a "motherf**king badass".

WOW! Do yo not see your attempt to save face? The fact is that only 10 pts were scored in the 2nd half and 14 pts in the 1st half. You are selecting what you want to see.

How could you make a point that has nothing to do with the point at hand. Regardless to how you cut it, Kap took the field DOWN by 7, therefore the Rams score on two possession on AS watch.

What are you talking about? How am I trying to "save face"? How many times do I have to explain this? The defense gave up 14 points in the first quarter. Then they gave up only 10 in the 4 combined subsequent quarters. That's 2.5 pts per quarter compared to 14. This is ridiculous. I hate that I'm being dragged into such a silly argument when it should be blatantly obvious that the defense played much better after the first quarter of the game. It's ultimately irrelevant to the larger point which was now so many posts ago that I can't even remember what it was.

And how is it AS's responsibility to stop the defense giving up 2 tds in 2 full drives? That's ridiculous and those kinds of stretched, meaningless arguments only dilute any real analysis on this board.

I think the point being made is because we were down by 7 when CK took over for Alex, even though the defense played better by only allowing 10 more points the offense also played better by putting up 17

Sure, 17 pts in about 3 and a half quarters. (7 of which came off one run after a Rams fumble). I don't think they played better necessarily.
