Off-season 2007, though there was still a feeling that something was amiss.
The 49ers added Darrell Jackson and dropped Antonio Bryant in the same week. Norv left (and as a result, Frank Gore was a sad panda). Ashley Lelie joined the team and immediately rode the bench.
Cool story bros.

I thought Cody Picket was Tim Tebow before Tim Tebow.
And the empty suit.

When I read this article in ESPN the mag about Alex Smith being the best pick of the draft and how then 49ers were going to start a new era of dominance.
Not knocking alex, but obviously it didn't happen that way.

I was never a fan of singletary, but I originally though Nolan was the s**t.

I was stoked when we got the #1 pick in 2005 and was looking forward to building around a player so he can carry us to the playoffs in three years.
Then we picked Alex Smith and were literally forced to build around him so that he wouldn't crack while he was dragging behind instead of lifting us up.
That was a cheap shot. Lol.

Mine was after the 2008 season when Mike Singletary officially removed his interm tag. He had us on such an awesome run, and it was inspiring how tough he was and how he got our guys to play for him the way we did. Everything looked up at that point.... Then 2010 happened. Lol!

I was in Iraq in '07 when we started 2-0 and I was so excited, I made arrangements to fly out to SF after I got back home in December and catch the CIN game (my home station was at Walter Reed in Washington DC at the time). I remember calling my wife and telling her "This is the year. They're finally going to do it!"
Then Alex got hurt and everything spiraled down. The wife and I still went out to San Fran but at that point the season was lost and we didn't go to the game (even though we won that one IIRC).
