I was under the impression the niners had 3 million in cap space left??

According to this article and link the niners are dead last with only 579,000 left?

That would be me, here are a few things, I have us with a limit of 138.5M, but according to PFT article back in October the 4th, http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/10/04/adjusted-per-team-cap-numbers-for-2012/ , We have 137.4M, which would explain the difference between mine annd PFT/NFLPA numbers.

It was never $3M, that's 2013, which is 3.5M right now.

Also Maiocco has us at $438K under. I tweeted him the other day to be sure, below is his tweet.

RT @jhurley84 are PFTs latest cap figures correct? Do 49ers only have $579,000 in cap space? > In that ballpark. I have them $438K under.
So it looks like we are going to lose some players?

49ers Mailbag: Cap planning for next year

http://www.csnbayarea.com/football-san-francisco-niners/niners-talk/49ers-Mailbag-Cap-planning-for-next-year?blockID=798331&feedID=5936

The 49ers are a league-low $391,000 under the 2012 salary cap as of this morning, a league source tells CSNBayArea.com. But it appears as if the team's capologist, Paraag Marathe, has done a good job of setting things up for the team's future.

For instance, knowing the 49ers would have some space to play with this year, the team a year ago restructured Patrick Willis' contract so that he would take up $17.6 million in cap space this year. Next year, Willis' cap number falls to just $3.6 million.

<3 Maiocco.
Maiocco's 2013 numbers are right on with mine, right over $118.6M for 2013 in player salaries, but an additional $400K in dead money which I dont believe he noted.

I figure I had adjusted cap figures wrong, I had us at 138.5M and it's 137.4M, so that a good chunk that I had wrong, I had bad info, which I understand now, via former NFL.com and NFL Network analyst Jason LaCanfora.
I'm just waiting to see what "magic" is in store to keep this team together (mainly FAs like Goldson, Walker, and RJF and/or Sopoaga). Hopefully we win the Super Bowl this year so the vets that had to suffer under Nolan and Singletary have at least one ring since we won't be able to keep everyone.
maiocco is the man

So that 3.5 M cap space next year is after the players contracts expire? Or do they include players that will become free agents next season?

the $3.5M is right now with no extensions for any pending FAs to be. But it can get down much further. Haralson, Goodwin could be released or restructured. Justin Smith, Whitner and Akers can be extended. Some other ways too with little deals.
I'm pretty sure Willis is getting all his $$$ this year. You don't pay MLBs 17 million a year. Not even Willis.
Can anyone provide an update to the Niners Cap situation?
