This has been a much bigger loss then anyone could have imagined. He is a much better run defender then Aldon Smith at this point....we need last years formula with 98 stuffing the run and 99 getting the QB

Aldon has more then adequately replaced Haralson from a run D perspective.

in 16 games Haralson recored 30 tackles. 24 of them solo

through 6 games Aldon has 19 tackles 14 of them solo. Putting him on pace for 51 tackles 37 of them solo.......Aldon is a better pass rusher then Haralson too....

hes been making alot of tackles on the 2nd level....Haralson was great at filling the gaps at the line of scrimmage...stats dont tell everything...and im not saying Hes better then Smith, im just saying we could really use what he does well.

So you're knocking him for shedding his assignment and attacking a player who came through a gap he wasn't assigned to? I can't recall a single play were he's been bull dozed in the gap. Not saying it hasn't happened but is an indicator of how well he performing at stopping the run when we cant remember him messing up.

Also if you are basing this off the Giants game the majority of Bradshaw's runs toward the end of the game were right up the gut between the Gs and C. Hard to blame Aldon when they are literally running down our throats.
We just need somebody to effectively spell aldon 15-20% of the snaps. Parys was a decent run defender but he was lacking in most other aspects. If haggin is eligible then he needs game reps.

He's a backup, get over it.
Haralson has been a bust since he was extend in 09. He was ineffective. It's clear he wouldn't play because why sign Haggans, and not have him play a down yet?
Where are all the clowns who said Haralson was a scrub?
Forget stats. Haralson is not missed for his ability to stop the run more than he is missed for giving our OLBs a breather. The problem with our D is there is no rotation in any position other than corner. Our guys need a break and when the offense turns it over like they did on Sunday, the defense gets gassed.

He hasn't even recorded a tackle this year !

Ab, not sure what you got against haralson. He isn't a great pass rusher but he is good against the run. If he was healthy I wouldn't mind going with him on run downs and then letting aldon go back a pass rush specialist. He's not in good enough shape and doesn't have the stamina yet to be a 3 down guy and bring it as hard as he did last year. Also, I would bet Haralson would be laying some if healthy. We aren't playing Haggans because he was suspended 3 games and he isn't as good as haralson. He's an emergency guy... haralson wouldn't have been. edit: not saying he shouldn't upgrade over him or that he is a great player but he is a solid player that we could have used this year.

If people want more pass rush it wouldn't be Haralson, he has been non existent in that department since the extension. He is good as rush defense, but we are solid there. Haggans signing makes no sense. Other than to give the guy a "job" and pay him for playing 0 snaps.

I would guess Haggans is an emergency guy. If we don't activate Haggans and if Brooks/Aldon get hurt who plays OLB? Probably Dobbs and I doubt you want him playing OLB in a regular season game. As for Haralson I know he isn't the answer for people looking for a better pass rush. I think what they are saying is by putting him in on run downs it would keep Aldon fresher and it would be like last year where he would have that burst on the one down he would play.
