The reason Stafford stinks is because he is a momentum QB. When he gets going, he is impossible to stop. But with the playcall tonight (50% runs), he can't get any momentum considering he doesn't even throw two consecutive passes. Keep the ball in his hands, let him throw the ball, and watch what will happen. Forget the runs, and the Lions can come back and win this game...

The looks are going to be the same no matter what. They have such a strong front seven that they don't HAVE to do anything special on run defense. They're never going to stack 8 in the box.At some point, you're going to have to accept that running the ball generally is not going to work, and you need to try to play to your strengths.

It's not that they aren't sending anyone deep. They are. But the 49ers have both safeties (and occasionally even a linebacker) setting down deep as well, trusting that their front seven can do the job up front.

SF played both safeties anywhere from 15-25 yards off the los to take away any deep ball....WIllis can cover Pettigrew one on one and their corners can handle both Burleson and Young 1 on 1....Also their other LB is one of the best cover LBs in the league so its really tough to do much against them.....The reason why Linehan ran so much was to try and draw the safeties up...it didnt work.....ANytime your safeties don't have to be a major player in stopping the running game its a major win.
