If its an emergency and we have no one to backup OLB in case of an injury. I'm wondering if they might bump Bowman to the outside and have grant fill in next to Willis for him. Bowman has some experience playing OLB in college if I remember correctly, although it was in a 4-3. I would much rather have them sign Bakhtiari, Alama-Francis, Laboy or someone that knows the 3-4 system as a backup before the game though.

The suspension will not take place until after the Green Bay Game

who says that? second game is tough so it would still be a problem even if smith and brooks are healthy. that is a big if in my opinion
Let's hope Dobbs can fill in at OLB (DE..............TE..................Waterboy.........................Team doctor......................etc.).

Haggans was cited for speeding and running a red light and was charged with DUI. He pled guilty to "extreme DUI" -- a DUI in which the blood-alcohol level is more than .150 -- and served jail time in June. The matter is not expected to be resolved this week and Haggans should be able to play in Sunday's opener in Green Bay.Read more here: http://blogs.sacbee.com/49ers/archives/2012/09/49ers-place-haralson-on-ir-sign-haggans-to-1-year-deal.html#storylink=cpy

A hearing on the matter will be held on Wednesday at which point Haggans' agent, Jeff Sperbeck, will try to have the suspension reduced.Read more here: http://blogs.sacbee.com/49ers/archives/2012/09/49ers-place-haralson-on-ir-sign-haggans-to-1-year-deal.html#storylink=cpy#storylink=cpy

I believe the hearing is on Wed. The ruling might be coming later.

Plus, they can appeal which could take more time, which might allow the coaches more time to prepare someone else to fill in.

Green Bay and Detroit spread the field so much that the 49ers will spend a large portion of the game in their nickel package. They won't be using their base 3-4 very often so the first two games are great ones for Hagans to miss.

Justin Smith, McDonald, and Dobbs can all play end in the nickel so they could give Brooks and Aldon rest if needed. If the Packers or Lions decide to keep the 49ers 3-4 on the field it's an advantage for the 49ers considering both of those teams would be avoiding what they are good at(spreading the field and passing a lot).
