Can either Owusu or Palmer make the 53 man roster?

I asked this same question in the training camp thread. If he's as good as the beats have been making him out to be, then there's going to be no keeping him on the practice squad once he shows his stuff in preseason. WR is a position that is desperately needed on a lot of teams. I also don't think Tolzien would make it, especially now that the backup in San Diego randomly quit.

Would somehow like to keep Tolzein, more of a gut feeling than anything factual.
Palmer seems to be getting better press than Owusu.
Hell, if they go to 18 game schedule they should increase the roster size.

They better stop talking Palmer up if they want to hide him on the PS.

Perhaps they are trying to hide Owusu! Wouldn't be the first time a coach talked up a player to hide another.

You are right on 6 wr. Crabs, Moss, Williams, Ginn, Manningham, Jenkins. No room for either of the young guys.
The only way I see any of the above 3 making it is if Ginn is let go and I just don't see that happening. KW is as much a lock as anyone else IMO.

If the coaches come out of TC still high on Owusu, they'll find an excuse to IR him for the season. That would be best for his health. The fact that the coaches haven't acceded to Anthony Dixon's wishes to workout at FB along with HB, suggests they are not figuring on his making the team. As a FB, Dixon might challenge Miller as starter, but the coaches obviously don't think so. They may be committed to Cartwright as a special teamer, though I don't understand why. He's only 5'8, 215 lbs.

I really do agree with the coaches. Miller played phenomenal last year, better than Dixon ever has, and being his rookie year and a year in which he was making a position switch I can only see a bright future for him as our starting FB.
Dixon will be cut.

No chance barring injury to one of our clear-cut top 6, and even then, it'd probably take 2 injuries since we'd probably just keep 5 if one got injured.

Agreed. I don't see Dixon making this team.

Dixon is gone unless he can supplant Rock as the new "Castanzo". Byham is looking more and more like he will be cut, sad cause he looked like a good TE/H-back role, he will really need to be impressie as the coaches appear to be taking the approach "Why keep 3 when you can get by with 2 and 1 on the PS."
-With tight ends, it seems like they want to keep two, and then get Dobbs some reps to deal with any "in-game" injuries while stashing Rueland on the PS for depth.
-The same can be applied with QB's depending on how they fare in the preseason, cut either CK (unlikely) or JJ, and stash Tolz on the PS for depth.
-Lineman-wise, Kilgore seems to be the back up center (the new Wragge) while Beeler and Slowey will compete for a center spot on the PS. Who knows the loser of the Leanord/Boone competition could be the other swingman, leaving the remaining 1 or 2 spots up for Looney, Person, Hall, and whoever.
Point is there are allot of options with the roster, they coaches have mentioned they know the locks at 40-45 spots. If they deem Palmer as an NFL receiver, they will find a way to get him on the team. Moss & Ginn are on a 1-year contract, MM on a 2 year, and this year we have an abundance of quality competition at WR (similar to DL last year) so it's almost guarenteed that they will be doing some roster manipulation to make sure the guys they like dont get away.

ya i dont see a spot for him unless he beats out KW or Ginn but based on last years championship Ginn is a lock and hes supposedly been working on his receiving skills and working hard to get in better shape. kw has always looked pretty good as a receiver so palmer will have to match him atleast to get the job because i think palmer is bigger but he'll need to show hes just as good if not better than kyle to take his job. if i were the niners and i think i have something in palmer they should just not play him more than a snap or two per game in the preseason and stash him on the practice squad

I wouldnt worry too much about having Palmer and Owusu on the practice squad. Have they shown enough to make any team HAVE to keep them on the active roster all season? The only way theyd be on an active roster all year is if a team has devastating injuries and theyd probably have one of them in their top 3 receivers. Maybe Jacksonville if they lost Blackmon and Robinson for an extended period of time. Even then theyd probably just a sign an FA like a Swain or Hastings type guy.
I doubt Harbaugh would worry about losing them since neither of them would make a team any better right now, and they definitely wouldnt be able to do anything against our defense in a real game.

They have to show their talents in preseason games for other teams to take notice. There's no way for other teams to know what's going on in TC besides the local press clippings

Let's just say if Jenkins was a 4 th rd draft pick Palmer would make the roster ahead of him.

Owusu is a baller. I'm all in on this joker. He's got old school game. Knows how to play, can see the field...make good cuts, catch the ball, and get YAc.
