whats with everyone at camp hanging their pads out of the bottom of the sleeves? Will we be seeing a return of the "Fix my pads" scenerio that we had with reebok jerseys? just out the bottom of the sleeve in stead of the collar.

Used to do something like that when I played high school ball. It would make it to where the pads weren't so snug and created a better airflow. Not sure if that's why they're doing it or not though.

I think people are expecting way too much from Kaep at this point. He's exactly where he's suppose to be. First full camp from a guy that came out of the spread in college. Trying to get his head, arm, and feet working together within 3-4 seconds of dropback time to make a good completion and do it consistently. He will get there though.

I think the alarms should only sound if next year CK still does not separate himself from other backups. The flip side is that Tolzien seems to be well on track to be at least a good backup QB.

Good to hear the positive impression of Joe Looney from Barrows today. Competition is good.

Yes, indeed!

Looney hadn't lined up for a single snap this offseason until Friday. But he played extensively with the second-team offensive line today and looked very good. Looney even made a reception - albeit a short one - off a pass that was tipped at the line of scrimmage by outside linebacker Kourtnei Brown.

The dark horse to start. Yeah, I know. That sounds crazy, or should I say Looney....

Very good to hear he impressed on his first day out. Hopefully he continues to impress as camp goes.

There was more mixing of the two's and three's in with the starters. The vet regulars had a few big plays during various 11-on-11 situations. Gore and Jacobs each had solid runs up the middle. Vernon had several nice grabs on crossing routes. Brooks came down with an INT and Justin Smith had a called sack. But the bigger plays were made by a handful of back-ups. Dobbs had a great TD reception in the back right corner of the end zone in a short goal-line situation over the coverage of Willis and Bowman. Mosely broke up a would be TD reception by Moss knocking the ball out of Moss' hands on his way down in the back of the end zone in the same drill. Cox and Ian Williams had several good plays throughout practice as well. The Dobbs TD reception was impressive, but an improvisational play between Alex and Gore stands out. Under pressure from Brooks, Smith quickly saw that Gore was open in the right flat and lobbed the ball, almost underhand, over the defenders to Gore. Gore went for a big gain in the open space.

Guys in the Zone said Smith is incapable of improvised play. Will ignored what I've just read. Only believe it when I see. Got to see it in games. Don't know what's more surprising... Major Dump-off Alex Smith improvisation or Gore catching the short pass.

Actually , it's the other posters carrying qnn ... No credit given
Seems like the offense is slowly getting better in the RZ...against the NFL's best defense too.

Yeah, but they weren't good right away, so your point is dismissed.

The best CB through seven practices has been Tarell Brown. Rogers has also performed well. Those two are the starters. Culliver appears to be solid as the third CB. So, now, we're talking about the fourth CB. Although Brock is ahead of Cox on the current depth chart, Cox is ahead of Brock at the NB position. Cox's versatility is his strength. He can play outside, inside and he can also return punts.

Kaepernick entered camp as the No. 2 QB, and I believe he'll replace Smith at some point early in Friday's exhibition opener against the Vikings. Up to this point, though, he is certainly not pulling away from reserves Josh Johnson or Scott Tolzien.
