This from a team that needed 19 starters just 3 yrs ago. Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.
So, you mean Captain Checkdown will have a weapon that turns that "checkdown" into an 57 yard TD
I'll buy that for a dollar
The 49ers of yore used to have that - it was called YAC -- Joe throwing 2 4 yard slants to #82 that become 2 90 plus yard TDs on MNF. Granted, those weren't "checkdowns"

Man, if Walsh could have molded Alex from the beginning
Not saying that Alex is in Joe's league but he had 5 come from behind wins last year, plus the NO game. The SEA game, the DEN game in prior seasons, Alex has shown a propensity to be CLUTCH (to use coach's term)
I think Alex deserves a clean slate going into next year. Forget his draft position and all that stuff. Judge him for what he does this year.
Going into next year, for me, its Alex

Patrick Willis for sure, followed by Justin Smith, then Gore, and Vernon, and then the whole defense. Randy Moss even though we don't know what he will do is also a guy I like a lot.

... and this has been one of the two biggest issues for the ABA crowd. Can't let go of the distant past.... or simply won't throw hands up and admit that they were pretty wrong about Alex.
... but it keeps the WZ mildly entertaining, so.. I guess it brings something to the table.
Liked your sentiments very much here.

Favorite player - Justin Smith because he is simply a beast.
Favorite person - Alex Smith because the things he does outside of the football field are that of a great person. Everything from doing whatever he can to help his teammates to going out and searching for Sierra Lamar, the guy is a great human being. That doesn't mean I'm going to ignore any shortcomings on the field or not argue against someone overvaluing some of the things he does (and even against those I feel undervalue the things he does). I just like him as a person and genuinely want the guy to do well not only because it benefits the team, but because he deserves it. That being said, I feel he still has a lot of improving to do, but am pretty confident he can do it with Harbaugh.

You mean like that little dump off pass to Sproles from Brees that Sproles turned into a late 4th Q TD? Montana also had Brent Jones who was amazing...and he wasn't 6'6" with major hops where Brees, literally, could just toss a couple high passes up for 2 TD's b/c our secondary is short. Moss will take up that role this year and Hunter/James should continue to own the RAC on these dump-off passes and middle, off-tackle screens.

SOOOO many players to like! I've always loved watching Gore play. The guy loves the game and has rare vision/efort. I have jerseys for Willis and Vernon, Though my current absolute favorite is Cowboy. He is just a relentless force of brute strength, will, and tenacity that is a pleasure to behold.
I always have guys that I am pulling for, too. This year, they are Alex (he's usually here; if he is great, we are awesome), KWilliams (dude dealt like the NFCCG like a man, much better than I or must here would have), Boone, and Aldon.

I'm gonna be rooting especially hard for Frank Gore. A lot of people seem to be down on him, not just beat writers and talking heads, but fans as well. I don't know, when I watch him play I think he's got 2 good years left in him. This year will be first time in a long while that we had a legit passing game to compliment him. He's going to have a better year than last year, even if he does lose a few touches to Hunter/James.

Frank Gore has been my most favorite player since Jerry Rice left.
That doesn't change this year, but with all the amazing talent this team has, I've got a lot of other guys that I root hard for in addition to Gore.
V. Davis
J. Smith
and.... (never EVER thought up until last season I'd be saying this one) Alex Smith.
