true. But we have a lot of depth this year too, more than we've had in a really really long time. Our 8-8 year and just barely missing the playoffs in 2010 had a lot to do with alex and gore getting hurt.
Alex gets hurt this year we've got two rookies with a year of development under their belts, certainly you don't want to have to find out what we have in those guys but I believe they can play a similar low yardage/clean game as Alex in our system. Then there's josh johnson, who from all reports seems to be impressive in OTAs so far and Harbaugh has trained him forever. Another guy who can probably play a game manager role at least.
Then obviously you have our situation at runningback, gore gets hurt and we've got a really talented tandem of hunter and james with jacobs or dixon providing short yardage carries.
For WR's we had a lot of injuries at this position last year, and this year have a heap of guys there too. Crab, manningham, moss, jenkins, ginn, KW...
Our defense stays solid no matter who gets hurt too.
You are right Mike, this team does have lots of depth but a series of injuries like the one that hit the Texans a while back and "forgetaboutit". They lost their #1QB,WR,TE and some others to season ending injuries. Depth or no, there isn't a team that takes that hit and doesn't start thinking top 5 pick.

Giants were lucky and that is all. If we had a few WRs and a few less Kyle Williams' we would have beaten them with ease.

The NFC looks very tough this year. I think the Eagles will post the biggest threat this year if they can provide even a decent defense. If you all remember, they were crushing us early on last year until Justin Smith closed it out for us. The Packers have a potent offense but that was only because of the weak defenses they played last year. Look what happened when a respectable defense like the Giants played them.
Giants - one year wonder and grateful for Kyle
Cowboys- Romo the choker
Lions - shut down Megatron
'Aints - they're done
...Bears, Carolina, Seachickens, AZ??? nah...
Eagles scare me the most with all that talent, speed, etc. What do you guys think?

Yes, Aaron had a lot to do with it but his stats wouldn't have looked so good if he had to play the AFC North or NFC East like the 49ers played. The AFC North had some of the top defenses in the NFL last year. Even the Cleveland Browns were #10. We played 6 of the top 10 defenses last year. Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincy, Baltimore, Seattle, Philly... Aaron wouldn't have looked so good if he had to play those teams and it showed against the Giants.

The NFL preview magazines are coming out now. Profootball Weekly has the 49ers winning the SB over NE and Lindy's has the 49ers losing to Houston.
