This list should illustrate the fact that good teams are built through the draft. Free agency rarely gets you anything more than short-term role players.... Although, I must say we got lucky with Ahmad Brooks. Solid FA pickup. I also think Donte Whitner will be around here for a long time.

This. Gonna be hard for guys to come in and make this team for the next couple seasons for sure.

It'll be a great day when we can say we are getting 1st and 2nd day guys to be backups. Hope we draft 32 in 2013.
in 2013 we could have 8 quality starters from the 2011 draft + FA.

Same here. I always said if we got a coach worth his weight in salt we would be a real threat, and look what happened

That wae one of the better drafts in Niner history.

All are pro-bowl caliber players and a likely HOF player, Willis.

All but T. Brown have made it, but i suspect he will get his dues this year.

Whitner, C.Rogers, Brooks, J.Smith were all; FA pickups. Rogers is old but is locked up so he's not short term. Whitner is young and if he continues to play well, he should get extended. J. Smith has been here for awhile. Akers as a K and Ginn as a KR have worked out well for us. Ginn is short terms but Akers should be here for awhile, esp after his career season. Plus he loves the Harbaugh family. All these guys, including brooks, have made key contributions.

We have dropped the ball, literally, on picking up offensive weapons through FA. We are giving it another shot this year with Maningham, and to a lesser extent,Moss.
Think Moss will start, Manningham with be #3, but may take Crabs spot by end of the season.

Chris Culliver may as well be marked as starting -- he plays a ton and typically matches to the #1 receiver with Rogers moving inside on 3rd down. Not to shabby for a rookie to be trusted on other teams #1 like Calvin Johnson.

Whitner should be extended after 2012, J.Smith will be signed past 2013 when time comes, he isn't a guy who will holdout.

Akers stays for the rest of his career.

Wouldn't say we drop the ball on offensive players, as the big ones are way way overpaid. VJax getting 55M, Garcon 42M, plus Bowe got tagged, Stevie Johnson re-signed before FA, same as Colston, Meachem went to SD for good money. What was left? Eddie Royal? not a big name guy, a Manningham type of name.

Also not mentioned, but I'm glad we stayed away from Nicks and Grubbs, both got 40M or more, ridiculous money. Especially for what would be a RG, when we will need to pay Iupati soon.

Baalke has been a master of personnel strategy.

The only thing that concerns me is Brooks. He is worth every penny, but I would rather put the money towards another position like OL, WR or QB. In the future, when Aldon signs his insane contract, we won't have any money left for WR, CB, OL, QB.

We will because all the guys we draft at those positions will be studs! Screw overpriced free agents!
