2012 Niners Offense, Best Since..

I'm hoping that better, faster, and more speed at the skill positions will help the Oline and Alex. Just like a good CB is a great one with a good front 7, a good Oline and good QB would be GREAT with the firepower and coaching we have. To me, in order for an offense to work (well) you just have to have the ability to be flexible and make the D pay. That what I remember about the high-octane days (started watching in 90), that no matter what the D did, we owned them. Double Jerry? Ok, hit John Taylor. Play cover two with the safeties? Brent Jones would eat'em up. Blitz happy, better not let us catch you with a screen, cuz Hearst would BUST IT.

I think it all lines up this year. If Alex improves only as much as he did from '11-'12, plus Randy Moss, Jenkins, James, Gore, VD........damn. This coaching staff knows how to MAXIMIZE their players skills. We just didn't have the outside firepower last year and look how we did. We have brought back the same D and special teams. The D won't even HAVE to be as big of a factor. This coaching staff isn't afraid of calling anything and seem to be real football junkies. Last year I always had a feeling that Harbaugh/Roman knew something, or had something ready. Look at the fake FGs last year. What about the Jet-Sweep, the WHAM play that destroyed Detriot? Now that we have serious skills/speed, WATCH OUT.

Nothing like these f**king annoying threads
It doesn't rate yet. Like the Raiders almost every year, the offense is good--on paper.

Until Alex Smith can move this offense consistently in sustained drives and convert third downs, its only on paper.

The potential for more home runs is alluring, but it's a low probability game. Show me the third down conversions and sustained drives and then we can rate this offense with effective niner teams.

Can't wait for someone to do a study of Smith's success rate in leading the team down the field to FGs. Then study what plays were called when the team was within FG range...my memory tells me they were mostly runs up the middle for no yardage. And when they needed to score to win the game? They usually did. I'm not saying there is no room for improvement but that will be true until he retires...just like every player.

The potential of the home run will hopefully keep the D's from stacking the box. It might also open up the middle of the field. Can't wait to see the changes!
