RB Brandon Jocobs: Like It or Hate It?

I just heard John Madden on his KCBS segment and he said Jacobs is the best "chipper" in the league taking out DEs etc. He said Frank Gore was the second best "chipper" in the NFL so now we have #1 and #2 which helps everybody from the OL to the QB position.
Jocobs and Gire FTMFW!
How can you have much of a problem with it? They didn't go out and give an 8 year deal with tons of money that limits the franchise. Worst case, he is better than Dixon on short yardage, and a good blocker. Best case, him and Gore have huge seasons where they play fresh all the time, open up the passing game, and we have a very scary balanced attack. Not to mention dealing with Jacobs and GOre will make the holes for Hunter even bigger for him to get some big gainers. We also have two guys with SB rings and will be a good influence in the locker room come January
Like it! Keep Dixon on special teams or cut him loose. A few times this year he wasn't able to get 1 flippen yard for us! All he is good for is special teams and Twitter. Nuff Said!!

Ah...I see the plan now...no RG, just two backs in the game to cover. Then three TEs and one receiver. Hmm...very creative!

The only bad things about these FAs is that Moss and Jacobs don't seem like ST players.

we are in a good spot this year but we already are keeping ginn cuz he can only do one thing well so am not sure we have the luxury of keeping dixon just for special teams

Not every player needs to be able to play on special teams. I dont know if its a sign that we've gotten so much better that people are worried whether or not free agents that we sign can play special teams.
We have guys for ST's already. Spillman, Jones, Gooden, Cartright, Ginn, Dobbs, Brock, even Bowman plays a lot on special teams.
So far, he's replacing Moran Norris. So, yeah, so far, so good.

Honestly though, it's just another low risk high reward deal. If Jacobs comes in and does what we need him to do, and what we didn't have anyone who could do last year......he's a great pickup. If he can't, we don't lose much on the deal. Same with Randy Moss, same with Parish Cox, etc.

You.....are correct, sir....

I think we'll still sign a FA RG. This tells me they have a lot of faith in Kilgore and plan to draft a OG since we essentially are losing two. Regardless there will be 3 OGs competing for 1 starting spot and 1 back-up. It should be okay.
This is a little off topic, but I think you're correct about Kilgore. He must have impressed the coaches this past season, and is penciled in, for now, as the starter.

If that holds up, and he's the starter, that only adds to the quality of last year's draft and underscores what a great job Baalke did and continues to do. IMHO.
Best signing since Edwards...
Initially, once the surprise was over, I wasn't too crazy about the signing.

However, on reflection, I believe Harbaugh is gonna get Jacobs motivated an renewed an stuff.

A motivated 265 pounder pounding the line of scrimmage!

Plus he's very good a pass protection. Really adds some options to third down calls.

Could be scary good.
