Watters was a better player but his attitude hurt him.

Both are great RBs. Do you have to take into context that Hearst was out for a few years due to injury? Or we looking at just their prime?
I think Hearst was the better blocker and runner..Watters had better hands..so my answer is: It depends.

I would take Hearst in any other era. Since today's game demands more passing im leaning towards Watters, but its a toss up.

Garrison is one of my favorite 49ers of all time. Watters was the more talented all around player. Tough, but just looking at them as players I'd take Ricky.

Watters was more of a threat to pick up big yardage running or receiving. But he also had games where he didn't try hard.
Hearst was way more consistant.
I think my screen name gives away my opinion.

Ricky who? Hearst is by far my all time favorite 49er. He ran hard, played hard, and bounced back from career threatening injuries on 2 occasions. How can you not love him

I'd go with Hearst. I loved his running style and he was great in pass protection. He also was a man of very high character and you can't help but respect him.
Ricky Watters was more talented. If he had a better head on his shoulders he could be in the HOF. He was a very good player and an incredible receiver out of the backfield.
